Default Mottled Emigrant

Not too sure whether I got the name correct. All comments are welcome. Thank you.

Nice composition and framing.

The foreground bud takes a bit out of the picture but nonetheless it's beautiful

Tks kssim and keito for your comments.

Kssim, how do you recognise it to be mottled emigrant. I checked it out in the guide to common butterflies of Singapore by sci centre and found that this species is the closest to the one I got here. But they don't really look the same. I was only guessing.

Pardon my limited knowledge on butterflies. I have actually shot a couple of these mottled emigrant which are positively confirmed by some butterflies expert at another forum. You can take a look at http://www.geocities.com/RainForest/...e/pyranthe.htm for some comparison.

You can tell the Mottled Emigrant from the Lemon Emigrant by the presence of a black cell spot on the upperside forewing and by the reddish brown transverse stripes on the underside, hence the name Mottled Emigrant.

You can find out more about the different emigrants from the Expert Insight articels of the Butterfly Interest Group website

If you are NSS member, there will be a slide talk at Alex Hospital this month that teaches you how to ID some of the more common butterflies at AH.
