    what star effect?

    use a filter or simply turn down your f-number

    as of hoya... the 4sided 1 is called cross screen, 6side as star six and 8side as star eight iirc, or simply use a tripod and turn down ur aperture... i can squeeze more side from some of my lens

    ah yo, just down the the f/ stop to 22 loh

    Shape of the "stars" you get will depend on the no. of blades and the shape/design of the aperture blades.

    IMHO, play with f stop better then buying cross filter... unless u wan to spend the $$...

    effect of the cross filter strange when u zoom in very close though.. found that out when my friend tried...
    I go by feel... Never followed the rules.

    why dont you just use photoshop? Under Filter/Render/Lense flare. it has 4 types of lense to fake the flare. I think you can google for more plug in to get the start effect
