for the above, i think the blacks are not black enough. dark end input levels & contrast can be further increase but be careful not to overdo it. highlight area can be darkened a bit. i saw some of your series..... somehow quite similar to HK....i feel Last edited by zoossh; 2nd August 2006 at 12:24 PM. |

------------------------------------------------------ 5 Aug 2006 I am a wedding photographer the whole day. what else can i say? By all means i am not good at wedding, but I have promised my friends on the train to Shanghai. I should learn more the art of turning people down. Yesterday I spent 5 hours in the Oriental Pearl Tower (5-10pm). I was there shooting like crazy and came out with over 300 images. This tower is no doubt the greatest place to shoot the night in shanghai, the RMB85 entrance charge is worth every penny. At the check point I had a problem bringing in my SONY HC1E video camera. The security guy said it looks professional. What the stupid security guy didn't know is that i have a much more pro camera with me, the Canon EOS 1ds Mark II. I complained to the manager and the problem solved. I would like to thank Lao Liu for a great Sichuan cuisine treat last night at a small restaurant near Lianhua subway station. Lao Liu is an experienced Shanghainese photographer who had provided me with lots of info via MSN on taking photo inside the tower. Thank you. ---------------------------- Shanghai Pudong viewed from the Oriental Pearl Tower. ![]() |

Among 9 shanghai residents i visited Ms Gao Qian was the nicest to me. 2pm, being baked under the fierce shanghai summer sun, i rung her up asking for the exact location of her house. Gao smelt my confusion: OK Yang, go and find KFC near DongFang building, you just stay there i'll come down and pick you up in 10 minutes. After 13 years of service in the real estate industry, Gao now drives a big HONDA and lives alone in a beautifully decorated 3 room apartment. She belongs to the luckiest group of shanghainese who do not really have to worry too much about living and money. She had them all. Gao was born and grown up in shanghai. As for the general comment on this city, she laughed: no choice, this is my home city, I have used to nearly every dimension of shanghai, though in recent years it has grown explosively beyond my recognition. Anyway, i have to bear with it, good or bad. I then strolled through the streets of Xujiahui after visiting Ms Gao. There is a grand Cathedral nearby but no photography allowed. I will try to call the cathedral management tomorrow see if i can take a couple of picture inside.
8 Aug 2006 For the first time in shanghai i got up at 6am, reached the famous Yuyuan garden at 7:30. Nobody answered the door. By 8:30am i got into Yuyuan, the sunlight was already too harsh for garden photography. I visited a few alleys near Yuyuan, guided by the walking tours of Lonely Planet Shanghai (2003). To my surprise many of the street lanes in this 2003 book were no longer in existence. I bought a couple of cold drinks and visited the shop owner, Aunt Zhao family. Aunt Zhao has been living in #132 of Zhou-Jing Rd near Yuyuan garden since 1970s. This alley, Zhou Jing road, has been in existence long before the 1949 Liberation. Mr Gao Jianyuan, son of Aunt Zhao, lives in a rented 3 room apartment in Pudong with a monthly rental of RMB1,700. The entire Zhou Jing Rd will be giving way to high rise buildings by the end of 2006. Compensation will be 250,000 per head, equivalent to the price of 20 square meters living space, according to the current real estate pricing in shanghai. 图片编号:shanghai808D. zipper, there is a light tower at the end of the Bund, normally no visiting.
8 Aug 2006 For the 2nd time in shanghai i got up at 6am, walked along the suzhou creek all the way to shanghai railway station. I got over 200 shots in 3 hours from this morning walk. The suzhou creek area is where the giant shanghai city was originated. I simply love this place. Forget the skyscrapers, the concrete forest is the same everywhere on this planet earth, New York, Tokyo or Shanghai. It is the life of the people that really interests me. I may have made a wrong choice staying at Jinjiang Park, i should have stayed in an alley family inn, but the hygiene condition was a little terrible there... I did not sleep well during my 3 week stay in shanghai. shanghai is not my place. My spare camera was stolen, and i am a little crazy about myself now. am i getting too old? Cable release, the single most important camera accessory, was left at changsha home. Yesterday i scheduled to shoot the Bund again. When i arrived at People Square, i suddenly found i have the tripod with me but no quick release. A tripod without quick release is just a piece of junk. Failed shooting the Bund from the balcony of the Peace Hotel. i was little crazy about the Bund now. By all means i am photographer of professionalism but I swear I will NEVER shoot the Bund again. There are simply too many people, pusing over each other. No wonder many elite shanghai residents including my NUS course mate Fan are fleeting this city. 5 - 8pm I was at the observatory of Jinmao Tower, 341 meters high in the sky. 9-11pm i was visiting Merly. I really have to bid my big THANK YOU to you Merly, I knew you were very tired after a hard working day. 图片号:shanghai810B Shanghai, a view from Jin-mao Tower. Nice shots. Try increasing contrast by 5-10% to make them stand out more.
