I have a FX9, would like to check how can i get those nice nice effects like....
The front object it focused, but the background is blurred. what mode to choose? Another thing, how do i take a pic of my child sleeping at night? The room is not in total darkness, if i dun use the flash, the pic is totally black, with flash, it turn out to be bright like daylight. Any way to capture the same effect as what our eye is seeing? Or something closer? |

to answer your questions
1. object focus + background blur is possible, but you need to have a camera lens with very big aperture. Only SLR camera with appropiate lens and setting will give you such effect. 2. i am not sure if there is manual mode for the FX9, or night shot/night scene mode. The trick is to lower the flash power and increase the shutter speed/sensitivity to capture more ambient light

get a d50 kit, sell the kit lens and buy a 50mm f1.8... use the rest of that 2k budget on a wide lens (d50 - kit lens + 50/1.8 = <1.2k). can consider a tokina 12-24 or maybe tamron 17-35 f2.8-5, each costing $800+ and $600+ respectively IIRC. both give very good image quality, if quality doesn't matter that much you might wan to get cheaper lens or even keep the kit lens + a telephoto like 55-200/70-300 Last edited by ExplorerZ; 2nd August 2006 at 08:38 AM. |

![]() DOF can still be achieved with the FX-9. Its all about the placement of the subject relative to the background. Bring your subject very much closer to your camera, while distancing the subject from the background. That will create depth of field. Try this with your eyes, by bringing something you are looking at nearer and nearer to your eye, dun you notice that everything in the background starts to become more and more blur. Apply the same technique to the things you are shooting.

for even closer macros, u can hold a magnifying glass or loupe in front of the lens. You'll be surprised by the results. |
