Finanlly had the time to visit the zoo again, this time with a DLSR and a nice loong 100-400 L IS. The lens is was rented just so I can get a feel for it(if I ever decide to blow the 2.5k). Overall the push-pull takes time to get used to but the IS is a real lifesaver allowing me to get 1/180 or 1/120 shots @400MM It is a little soft wide open though asn works best stoped down 1 stop to f/8. Most of my shots were either wide open or at f/6.7 . All pics taken RAW @ ISO 400. Some curves/saturation/sharpness added. Anyway enough talk here are some pictures!
We start with some Orang Utans who seem to be 'busy' ![]() Next up from the Australian outback section is a very obliging Kangaroo who held this pose for a good 2 miniutes. ![]() This lioness was near the back of the enclousure but the 400mm managed to get me in close enough. ![]() Just before the keeper threw in some food for the token feeding this lioness did a quick warm-up stretch. ![]() More pics coming up.. I only just managed to get this shoot before he dissappeard down the hole. ![]() A Brown Capuchin (sp?) juvenile looking curiously at that monkey with the white lens. ![]() Another youngster being mentored by an elder. ![]() Thats all from me. You can see http://www.flickr.com/photos/nick_le...7594217149231/ for more photos. Thanks for viewing. |

Finally u went visit the zoo, lottas photo opportunities right? Some animals are a challenge to get it right the first time, especially those with good white camou, or the totally black furs, add with the ever changing light condition, the camera processor get confused to the core and if one switches to the manual mode, you will not be able to adjust your settings fast enuff. ... lol. Now you know why I am back there ever so often.
Like some of your takes, especially the monkey looking over the shoulder of another although one of them is oof cuased by movement vs shutter speed. The kangeroo is the next one that I like, the eye contact speaks volume Lets go together when ur free ... |
