Default Got Nikon 18-200 VR yesterday - Tourist experience :)

Hey all!

Well my greatest bounty to get in Singapore was Nikon 18-200 VR since it is almost unpossible to get it in Europe.

After ringing up all regular Singapore stores (Cathay, Alan's...) and finding out no stock is there I headed down along Orchard. Well noone got it, one said 1800SGD and he can supply it. Ofcourse I said no thank you....

Well beeing to Little India I went to Slim Lim Square...What a surprise...Went to first shop and voila...18-200VR, Made in Thailand, Guarantee Card stamped and signed - 1540SGD. Another shop said 2000SGD I only laughed and after buying it I went along the shops and another one offered me price 1280SGD (with tax)!? Well I couldn't belive that price so I asked him to double check it and that we are talking about same lens and well he said we are.

Since I'm getting back 55SGD because of Tax Free it will be - 1485SGD for me which I think is good price, what do you think?

1280SGD is too good to be true, I still don't belive somehow that someone would actually sell for that price...

My 5c to the forum Feel free to use the price in Nikon Price guide though

love the city though

$1280 is a good price, however, I think $1540 is a little expensive (even if its in short supply), Nikons reccomended retail price is only $1480.

Well, it's in your hands now. You bought it. Use it to the max!

No point. next time, maybe just spend another 5 mins more and venture further.

Well the thing is that even in Europe, Nikon Europe says 680EUR, but you can't get it! Nowhere! They sell for 850-900EUR on ebay in EU!

And it looks like the same in Singapore. Nowhere to get it in "regular" retailers. Well I can always buy another one and sell one in EU to cover price difference

Just wanted to check what anybody of you payed since you are local

$1280 is a reasonable price to pay.
Good thing you did some research before nailing the purchase.

Enjoy your new lens

alien2108,

3 days ago,1 of the regular shops called n quoted me about $1250.i think it was either Alan's or CP.

$1540 is way too expensive if u asked me.reasonable price:$1250 - $1300
And no point confronting the dealer who sold u @ $1.5k.A deal's a deal.besides,U know the street price is less than $1300.JUst b careful when getting the other len.

Well since 1250SGD would be a good price I'll go confront him and tell him I need another one. So he can sell me another one for 1150SGD and I'll get back my 100SGD and he'll still earn more for two (1540+1150=1345/piece) Well let's see

Yeah, but that would be a cheap filter. $30 isnt really a big deal if im spending $1250 already, I know to some people it will be though.

Maybe you buy the cheaper one then bring the two receipt to small claim tribunal and complaint you were being ripped, as a tourist they will give you priority attention and who knows...they might refund you the different....it's $200+.... quite a lot
