Hi guys,
I'm a complete beginner (got fed up after doing extensive travelling this summer and taking tons of crappy photos) and I'd really like a camera to hone my "skills" on and try to get better. The F27 caught my eye since it was at a decent price and I could take it around with me and wouldn't have a heart attack if it got a little scratched up. However, after reading review after review, I'm not really getting any closer to a better understanding of the camera. Would it be possible for anyone here to give me their feedback? What should I be looking out for? What should I focus my attention on? And does the F27 fulfil these needs? Also, one nagging (albeit potentially silly) question - exactly what kind of camera is the F27? It's not a compact, but it doesn't have that "detachable lens" that normal SLRS do. Can someone tell me what category it falls into and how that is different from a SLR and a compact (I guess I'm just worried that, after buying this, I realise that it's not a big upgrade from my compact. I currently use a Casio EX-Z750). I'm still learning, so I'd be grateful for any feedback. Thanks! |

ok anyway, fz7 is considered as a compact cum prosumer cum mega-zoom camera. rich in manual features but not as rich as dSLR. mega-zoom normally goes to any camera that have more than specific no of zoom (fz7 got 12x), i would consider all camera megazoom as long as they have >10x zoom. as for amount of upgrade difference, its up to u urself. to me i tink its a pretty big jump, but not to worry, learning curve ain that steep. y i say its a big jump? becos u get 12x instead of 3x zoom, you get all the manual functions like manual/aperture/shutter mode which is absent in most compact camera except canon powershot A-series. as for recommandation, i would suggest going for a 2hand fz5, it got slightly better noise control compared to fz7 but 1MP lesser (5MP vs 6MP). movie resolution ain as good as fz7 as well, but who wanna use a camera as videocam so often? other than that i think both are more or less the same, you can easily get a 2hand fz5 at S$450 in BnS section. its also alrite if you go straight into dSLR, but comparing the $ you will be spending it gonna be a great different. |

First and formost. Ask yourself why are you interested in photography? Fun? Passion? Interest? Or future profession Second. After the first question, ask yourself what do you want to shoot. Macro? Landscape? Portrait? Third. The Fz7 is a PROSUMER class camera, designed to bridge as an all-in-one camera and its the bridge between a consumer camera and a DSLR classed camera. Despite being a prosumer, FZ7 is a lower class prosumer, compared to the Fz50, a higher class prosumer camera. Forth. DSLRS = Interchangable Lens, High ISO, Long Term Investment, Lots of manual stuff, Good deal of skill to learn to harness it capabilities (correct me here) Prosumer = All in one cameras. Function as wide, standard zoom, and telezoom. Has the same drawback of all cameras with the exception of the Fuji F30, JIALAT NOISE. However. Prosumer camera's are quite a good way to force yourself a workaround a camera's limitation. Thats how i did when i first used my FZ5, now i have moved on to a D70... Read up hardwaremagazins guide to digital photography or go to the library and read up, plenty of books on photography. Don't restrict yourself to just a camera. Its merely a tool, one way or another, its up to you to make the shot count. ![]() |

Oops, how embarrassing
FZ7 it is!Thanks for your help guys. I'm pretty excited now - gonna do a bit more research and will hopefully have a camera by the end of next week. Perhaps I'll join your merry band of fireworks-enthusiasts for NDP. Good learning experience eh? ![]() |
