if u flip to the last page of the current issue of Asian Diver, you will see a pic of a goby guarding her eggs.....

the image is captured by our very own Luv4nature.

That him. Shot well taken.

His setup is ikelite D70 housing with dual DS125 strobe in 60mm port.

Yes, that's one of my humble uw works..... will slowly move my way to the front and hopefully one day make it to the cover page

Thats's right, taken with 60mm at almost max magnification.
Thanks to Oceanic Focus for supporting the strobes and housing during the trip.

As you can see, ikelite equipment can do wonders

btw, how do you get your pictures on magazines? do you just send them in? do you get some incentives?

Good question, but the answer is not a straight forward one.

First need to build up a collection of quality works and spend some time to compile into an attractive portfolio. This is to substantiate that you are a consistent photographer and have a good and unique style of shooting, instead of a "one shot wonder". No publisher would want to work with photographers who has only lucky shots to show.

Rest is self marketing, get to know the right people in the publishing team, communicate in the right manner to differentiate yourself, etc.

Reward wise, monetary wise it is generally not much in this region. But it is the whole experience and the exposure that I think are the real rewards.

Rates From Asian Diver as showed on their website
SIN$0.20 per word (printed); SIN$40 per picture (printed); SIN$150 per cover picture.

My photo was published this month issues but I did not get pay. Sometimes they used for publicity.

Wat was agreed between you & them before the photo was published? Did you ask for payment or told them they could use it for free?

Usually if you contribute, as in an article they will pay you but the editor usually usues regular contributers. Other than that they buy form stocks or use images which are free.. Eg images from competition heh heh.. or images form Old millioaire who do notihing but dive around the world get solid images to be published for fun... yupp all boils down to the terms and condition initially. You cant ask for pay if you gave up your rights. You only get paid when there is a contratual agreement or if your picture got ripped somwhere you can ask for compensation.

The photo was not up to the standard and I gave it to my company for free usage and the magazines request for it. During the shoot there were so much restrictions, I cannot block the medias, I cannot come near the expert as the shark can bite him, Within 20 metres I must keep my distance.I managed to get one good shots the rest is rejected photos. Yhe magazines approached me , I think my photos no standard and let them used.Well I got a little publicity for me.
