Default why is this so?? motion blurness

I was experimenting with my cam (auto mode).

I tried taking a pix of my ceiling fan (moving). Without flash there is motion blurness. With flash u can see the blade clearly no motion blurness eventhough its moving (2nd effect). Why issit like dat??

Can i create the 2nd effect using P/A/S/M modes?? If so can some teach me.

thanks

What's "2nd effect"?

With flash on, the short duration of the flash burst will freeze the subject. That's why if you use flash, you get less motion blur.

Yes, just switch off the stupid fan

Just j/k.

On a more serious note, to capture an object "freezed" in motion, you'll need a fast shutter speed. This means you'll need sufficient light. If you'll have insufficient lighting, you must use a flash or push up the ISO (sensitivity).

try experimenting with your flash. set the flash to slow sync and take the pic again (better o mount the camera on a tripod and use self-timer to prevent camera shake when you press the shutter).

Instructions here:

The background blur is caused by a shallow depth of field when in macro mode and large aperture. A high shutter speed of 1/500 combined with flash froze the water droplet.

You haven't told me what's "2nd effect".

Yup, you can say that. But if you're under good lighting conditions, your shutter speed can go to maybe 1/500s; then you won't need to use the flash.

Your shutter speed is the primary factor.
