Default Room Temp developing of TMax P3200

Has anyone tried developing TMax P3200 (exposed at EI3200) at room temperature (~28 deg cel) with HC-110?

you're lucky to be able to get HC110, I've been looking for it for some time.

Anyways, from what I know, you can't (at least not the standard thing to do) dilute HC110 to something along the strength of what Rodinal could do with 1+50. So with your standard dilution and chart at 28C, what kind of times are you getting with P3200?

From what I can scour from the internet (http://www.fll.gr/bwphotography/bwph...tmaxp3200.htm), with HC110 dilution B, you're looking at 7:30 at 24C. Extrapolating it on the Ilford chart, its 6:00 at 27C, so at 28C its probably about 5:30 approx. While its still more than 5:00 rule of thumb, I wouldn't save your ice cubes and do it. I'd probably try development at something cooler than 28C just to be safe.

Whereas, with Rodinal 1+50, you can do still >8:00 at 28C, making it more practical. But then again Rodinal + P3200 =?

Anyways, to cut the long comment short, no I have not personally tried your mix. If you decide to do it anyway, let us know the result.

Well, just for reference, I did 1+35 (poured too little developer; I meant to do dilution B 1+19 but my maths failed me) at 28 deg cel in the end, for 8 mins with continuous (10 inversions every minute) agitation. Negatives turned out slightly underdeveloped, surprisingly, and they looked somewhat thin.

Even then, sometimes I missed the timing by a bit and underdeveloped it but the scans are still usable, so I wouldn't be too concerned by it. If you would have done 1+19 the time will be cut short right?

Yup the development time would have been shorter but I was going to develop at 24 deg cel (rather than room temp) so that would have given me sometime around 7:15 by my estimation/adjustment from the Kodak recommended times. I messed up the ice/water mix and ended up with room temp water, which was why I ended up doing it all at room temp anyway.

My TMax 3200 is quite badly expired (June 03) so some parts had no emulsion left at all. I'm not sure if the developing was affected by the fact that it was expired.

I got it from my school newspaper (in Pittsburgh, PA)--they had leftover expired bulk rolls so I just brought them back haha. I have 4 rolls left if anyone wants to get any of it.

And I saw one or two bottles of HC-110 at Cathay just last week so maybe you can try your luck there...

At that kind of high ISO and expired for 3 years you probably have to do some compensation. I dont know how much but I think you might have to develop a little longer if I'm not wrong. I had a roll of expired PanF but just for 1-2 years. I did a google on the internet and users were suggesting that even for Pan F (ISO50 by the way) expired by 5 years you dont have to compensate becuase its not really a sensitive film. Something about cosmic rays hitting the film while its in storage. going by that reasoning alone, it would mean your ISO3200 film will have to be compensated I'm sure. IF you're planning to use it again, try developing at the correct time + 30sec or another min.. unless you find better advice on the internet.

Hmm the thing is most of the roll (ok, around 60-70%) turned out fine, only some parts were completely black...
