go to the KM section of this forum.. you will see plenty of discussion on the A100..

as to whether its a good camera.. well. that depends who you ask

i think someone posted a review from one of the websites already... image quality seems ok. but i think it was let down by the kit lens which doesnt seem particularly good. i think it also lagged behind in noise performance above ISO400 against the canon and nikons. but built in IS and anti-dust, is not a bad thing to have. but then again, it doesnt seem to offer much more than the KM that it is based on.

the current suggested lens prices though are quite shockingly high. i would wait to see what the proper store prices are.

btw, i think most people here know what DSLR stands for.

hi, as jdredd said, do pay a visit to the sony and km legacy subforums, there are posts regarding alpha online reviews/previews, the alpha launch in singapore, as well as users' experiences with the camera.

you can also have a hands on with the camera at marina square atrium on friday.

the street price of the camera is estimated to be under $1500 for the body, or $1700+ with the kit lens. the kit lens quality... well, somewhere between the canon and nikon kit lens standard...

one thing you should bear in mind about getting a new mount system, even though you can use KM lenses, is..

    a. customer service/ charging is an unknown quality, for DSLR that is.
    b. very very limited 2nd hand market for selling and buying.

not exactly a new mount, as SOny inherit Alpha mount from KM , and so far all report no compatibility issue.

    a) Sony have brought over a few KM's technicians from KM service centre before it close down.
    b) If you have a good/high end KM lens to sell at the right price, it will be grabbed quickly , medium range of KM lens is not that rare in B&S. High end lens may be a problem, but the 2nd hand will build up more in the future, it's only a matter of time.

As with all modern electronic goods destined for a very short lifespan, I would not consider the issue of second hand market at all.

Just get what you need and can afford.

    u r the man....

sony has taken over KM DSLR arm. dun think they intend to diverge out. the future development of lenses and accessories will have to cater to both upward and downward compatibility. i dun see at issue here.

That will have to wait for 3rd party manufacturer. So far hasn't seen any official camera company make for convertor for their mount.

I am aware of Nikon-Canon, but not sure is EOS to KM lens adapter on the market or not???

dslrs do have a shorter lifespan than film cameras, but the lenses can last a fairly long time. i'm using a minolta system, and more than half of my lenses are secondhand. some of them are quite old. don't look pretty, but the glass is still good. once you take that into consideration, "what you can afford" becomes much more variable, and does depend in part on the secondhand market.

    as for "what you need"...
