hi redspin, welcome to the club.
reckon you are shooting with just the internal strobe. first, i'd like to know if this is your first outing with your camera? If it is your first few uses, not bad. If you have been shooting for a while, then my take would be to aim for an "impact" in your photos.....like your schooling barras - sure they are schoollling, but they are too scattered to hv an impact. And for the clownfish shot, it would be better with a black backgrd rather than the blue..... Been less active on this forum recently as i don;t hv much time to log on . but these 3 weeks, on reservist so plenty of time .....wonder where hv some of teh old timers gone.eric |

thanks kthan!
well am relatively new to u/w photography...have been taking photos u/w for say 2-3 trips? just no time to post too...or lazy. yup, just using the internal flash, but have just bought a sunpak strobe to try out on my next trip (God knows when) when u say take the clown fish shot with a black background, how do u do that? take top down with coral bed as the background? but even then, won't the flash pick up the background too? sry about the darn sizing all going haywire too. oh and missed out one more shot: ![]() |

meter the background and use flash to light up the foreground.....so for the clownfish shot, use a faster shutter or smaller aperture or both to attain a dark background

Wow! Looks like I should make another trip to Perhentian sometime. I don't remember the colours and vis looking like that. All I saw was a blurry yellow tinge and barely made out shadows of the bigger fish.

thanks ramius! was using an olympus 3030 without strobe. heh, yes, very prehistoric i know.
aquaphile, to be honest the vis in perhentian wasnt that all fantastic... think the photos are quite deceptive as they are mostly closeups. heh |

I find the lighting rather flat. I've seen some really nice shots on this thread.
