Default Sb600 rubber button for $25 !?!?!

Hey,

the rubber button on the side of my sb600 used to pivot the flash head fell out during one of my shoots and I didn't realise it till much later.

As the flash was under warranty still, I made a call to NSC and was quoted $25 for that rubber thingy!!?!?!

Shouldn't this be covered under warranty?

Or is there anywhere else I can go to get a cheaper replacement?

the price by NSC is crazy...

Maybe it will be good to improvise and make it yourself if you find $25 too expensive. As long as it works will be ok liao.

Can use silicon glue to make weather sealing. Rubber buy from hardware shop and cut. Maybe won't drop out forever liao. Flash maybe also stop working!

You mean you lost it?

IMHO, if you lost it, that's not covered under warranty leh .

Arto.

Well, I think I've seen one or two with such a problem too.

so it's more common than I thought.

Well, I don't know about the quality made of SB600.

Let's say your camera's eyepiece. If missing, is it under warranty?

Regards,
Arto.

Been thru the army?

If yes, then you shld understand why we are taught to secure all our items. Its our responsibility to do an equipment check and to recover back any lost items. Canot find? Sign 1206.

Btw then again, I agree its a tad too expensive. Perhaps it includes the freight charges to bring the item in, the manpower costs to document it and also the holding costs (land is expensive and storage costs are high), thus totalling to $25.00

It's not meant to be removeable like the eyepiece or the connector cap. So it shouldn't even come out of the flash in the first place.

It's not something which consumer would expect to come loose and drop off like a lizard's tail. So no one in the right mind would go secure it. For example, would you secure the shutter release button?

I also agree on this that if its not securely connected, its suppose to be factory defect... but I don't see this to win... which is why gray sets is not such a bad alternative.

Nothing comes free in this world.. If i am not wrong the warrenty on cover electronics parts and not physical damage or wear and tear.

That's works on most electronics item nowadays.. not only flash or nikon..

Of course for a comsumer like u and me.. we will like to complain complain and complain..

I think many of us are not complaining about not getting it FOC but rather, the prices for replacement are exorbitant. Photography equipments here are always so much more expensive that the rest of the world, even spares are not spared.

Try B&S. Maybe someone have spoilt SB600 and you can buy off the rubber for half the price or something. Its still a win-win situation.

Even if you buy the rubber cap, you'd still need to glue it back. And I'm not sure if anyone would try super glue for rubber.... It's probably some other type of flexible glue.
