Why not take some test shots and post your findings?

hehe.... actually I've seen someone using a flash light with a white cap over it, so write in hoping to get some info on it before considering buying one.

nope.. it doesnt affect ttl metering and all.. the flash will compensate for it.. its used for softening shadows(for me that is.. as backup diffuser ) and also to use in wide angle photography..

its how u like to use it!

Yes, it will diffuse the flash output, so can be use with wide angle lens(es).

Remember, SB600 (and SB800) is not optimize for DX sensor size. So, if you set at 28mm, actually the flash will cover for 18mm lens(es).

Arto.

For product display shoot always go without a diffuser panel like the one from the R1C1 or R1.
For the metering, test the shoot and adjust accordingly.

YMMV

For most, if not all of my product shoots, I use a light tent and multiple flashes on CLS. All of my flashes have their diffuser panels on (Thus on wide angle) as my subjects are near to the flash and camera units and my tent acts as an omnibounce of sorts.

For other shoots, the panel is off/retracted. So enyu, the panel is used or not for different applications in my shoots. Try it out and learn along the way. Practice is the best form of learning. Rather than memorizing what people tell you to do or not to do. See what works for you and don't. The main thing is what outcome you're trying to achieve (Or unless what the paying customer wants).
