Hi,
Check that the focus area is set to the centre region? (Ref to D50 Manual pg 33) Was the lens motor moving and hunting for focus when you do the half-shutter press? |

Go to menu, there is this item called "14 AE-L/AF-L". On my camera if "AF-ON" is selected, it would not focus. Please see page 98 of the manual.
Try to select "AE/AF Lock" instead.

Return the shooting mode back to either P, S, A, or M, and then turn the AF/M switch (left side of body) back to AF, and you should be able to get into the Menu Option 02/03...

OMG....I realised whats the problem liao.....accidentally chanced upton it.....cos just now I heard a tick sounds thwn I try to rotate teh lens and it short of click back then can focsu liao.....furthe examination with both lens reveal that....
when u press the catch to fix on the lenses and then rotate it into position.......the catch is still fully depressed although the lens is locked into place...need to rotate the lens slightly backwards before the catch will return to its original position....Wheeeewwwww.........by the way...is my catch faulty? Should it spring back automatically when u rotate the lens into position? |

Check the contact pins on the mount? Maybe the camera cant communicate with the lens thru tis pins so it doesnt noe its a AF lense?
Another unlikely case is you din mount the lense such that the pins are correctly aligned? |
