yup, i too got a 2nd hand D50, but soon, after shooting, i discovered i need more! Maybe share my experience with u...

1)remote control
I was taking fireworks the other day and i find 2sec timer abit of delay as by the time the 2sec r up, the firework would have alread burst halfway!

2)Tripod
My old passed down tripod from my dad was never gona make with with my D50 weight esp in a vertical position, need to get a sturdier one now.

3)Extra batt
Mine died on me halfway during shooting, and i din know D50 battery indicator will drop from a full bar down to 1 bar straightaway. I was totally unprepared at all. Can anyone verify this?

4)D50 bag,
I find this bag abit on the heavy side, but den, since it holds my stuffs fine, its okie, Unless ur more active and a backpack may suit u better as it balances the weight on the shoulders.

As i have the kit and a 55-200mm cheap zoom, i guess its enuf to cover the range i need to shhot. Some ppl may say, oh u need a sharper lens, oh u need a 'faster' lens,' oh u need a longer reach! but perhaps dun rush, play ard with wat u have 1st, if u see a limitation to wat yours can do for you, den go ahead and upgrade.

But there is a phrase frm a fren i found makes sense:
"Good to have, but can live without"
Depends on how you interpret it!! have fun shooting!!!

Got soem stupid qns to ask...nevertheless.....i got the free nikon camera bag.....when i store the cam....how should I put it in to minimise damage? With the lens facing down....or the back of the body facing down? Or rest on the side?

As for my prime lens should I get those protective sheets with those inflated small air bubbles) adn wrap it aroudn then put into the bag?

Ok this one is really...........going through customs can I put my D50 through the X-ray? Will it damage the sensor?

should be safe enough to go pass the scanner. mine did once/twice at least.
for placement of camera/lens, its up to you. for me i prefer to have easily access, 1stly becos i can get it easily. 2ndly becos if it is too hard to get out, i will have to somewhat pull and that might rub against other lenses

rechargeable batteries are alike, you need to condition the batteries the very first time you charge it. So it should stay inside the charger for around 10 - 12 hrs. There after just charge until its full.

It is up to you how to put the cam, the cushion inside the bag is more than enough to protect the whole thing. As Explorerz had said, easy access is impt for me too. But I usually detach my lens and keep separately

There is no problem xraying the cam.
