Default Nikon 18-200mm VR Newbie Question

Just bought the Nikon 18-200mm VR this afternoon. Must say I'm very pleased with it. Then again, I'm just a newbie, so what do I know.

I noticed there are two rings on the lens: the focusing ring and the zoom ring. I know what the zoom ring is for, but what is the focusing ring for?

Perhaps some kind pro/semi-pro can tell me.

Thanks in advance!

I'm not a pro or semi-pro. Just another NEWBIE!

I think... ermm... the focusing ring is for manual focus. Just like all your other lens, you can use it to focus manually.

No ah... why leh?

As for the question, I think it's pretty obvious what it's for. It's pretty direct.

Hey! Thanks. I've been using autofocus, so the focusing ring wasn't relevant.

u switch off ur auto focus, and try turning the focusing ring while viewing through the viewfinder, you will see how relevant that focusing ring is..

AF-S lenses need not switch the focusing mode to M/A, you can override it anytime manually.

Hahaha.. cool answer. We always forget that some people do not learn their basics in photography and equipment.

Usually, I just refer to the manual and test out first before asking any questions, but maybe I take longer to get the answers, cause I don't ask.... but then, if I were to buy a $1k + lens, I wouldn't want to test try without asking here first...

Renaeding -- no offence intended. Are U sure the 18-200 is suitable for your use now? Maybe I test it for u first for a few months?...
