the SD8A is meant to power your SB800, not your D50.

SD8 is only work for older flash, like SB26, SB28, SB28DX and SB80DX, the SD8A is for newer flash.

But for a small fee, you can get NSC to modify your SD8 to fit into a SB800.

What they will do is to change the power cords so that you can plug it into the SB800.

Actually that is slightly incorrect, the SB26,28 were manufactured with both the non CE certified and CE certified connectors (thus some came with a silver CE sticker stuck to them -esp those to be sold in Europe) while all 28DX and 80DX flashes came standard with the CE certified connector.

So the SD8 will not work with EU certified SB26 and 28s and will definately not work with all 28DXs and 80DXs. While the SD8A will work with flash models SB22(not SB22s), 24, 25, 26, 27,28, 28DX, 80DX, SB800.

Provided they have stop, free and willing to do it for you. Otherwise the amout is not worth it.

The key is this should not be a old equipment etc.

YMMV

It depends on who as far as I know. I long time ago was quoted lesser than that.
But could be higher now.

YMMV
