D50 run on EN-EL3 battery, won't need 10 hours to recharge, but is it good to charge till full on the initial first chagre, however, you may borrow a battery from someone or ask the shop to charge it for you before you purchase.

Hope this helps.

Hi...so it doesnt run on AA?

oh no...me just went to check the specs...I dont think it does.......is the EN-EL3 battery able to last say one day before it needs to be recharged in cold climates (0 to 10 degree C)?

A simple check on the Nikon website would have given you your answer straight away!

Just in case you do not know what it is click here!

It runs on an EN-EL3 Li-on rechargable battery not AA

Charging will take around 1-4 hours in my expereince and can last for several days depending on usage, I can usually get over 1000 shots on 1 battery.

all batteries don't perform well in cold climates (0 to 10 degree C).

ermm.. I don't think it's such a good idea to get your camera on the same morning you are leaving.

At the very least, get the camera a day before, so that at least you have some time to charge the battery and check/play/familiarise yourself with it. (IIRC, the first overnite charge is important for conditioning the battery for optimal lifespan)

The last thing you want to do is to spend time during your hol figuring out how the camera works. Remember to bring your manual along.

Anyway, good luck and have a great hol.

No, Nikon D50 does not runs on AA battery.

Only D200 Or D100 offers 6xAA as an option when installed MB200 Vertical Grip.

However, D50 does not have that option.

As D50 uses EN-EL3 family battery, maybe can use the MS-D70 battery holder

<-- or maybe not

... " Cannot use the MS-D70 holder for three CR2 disposable batteries as the D70 and D70s can "

D50 can run off 3 x CR123 if you have the MB-D70.

Only D100, D200 can have the option of running with AA batteries with the optional vertical grips.
