Default 24-70 2.8L or 24-105 4L IS?

i'm looking to get either one of the two (24-70 2.8L or 24-105 4L IS?) lenses in future. the prices are quite close to each other. would you rather pay slightly more for a 2.8 lens with less range and no IS or pay less for something with IS and more range but is f4?

anyone has used both lenses before and care to comment on them? weight, sharpness, functionality etc.? and the good and bad of the both lenses?

Ya better go to the other thread, or the whole debate on whether to start a new thread on old topics will start again.
