hi armand78,

can't say it's unconventional for my tastes but the title did attract me to click on your thread

i think it's an interesting candid, nice to grab a pic where the subjects are unconscious of the camera.

good use of avaiable light, but the subject are rather ordinary.

if you crop to just thesofa and the photo frames on the wall, it'll form a interesting composition.

yeah.. thats why its a little unconventional.. Good portraits are always about the focus on the face, half body, 3/4, full length with tight headroom. Maybe a tighter crop on my picture will be better, i have yet to try..

personally I don't find it anything unusual, as in the unposed group photo, not the bride, groom or anyone in the photo.

oh no... am i the only one who like it?
i like the contrast between the seriousness of the family portrait at the background and the candid scene in the foreground. with the different expressions on the people's face.

And with the space of the photo it gives me the feel of being at the actual scene and watching it happen. hope to see you post more!

its a common sight in doing groups. there is nothing drastically original nor is there any strong action in the cast, too much head room as an unconventional feature is itself pointless because what is the point. Do this add nothing to your picture - only in your mind does this take on ominous dimensions ...like wah piang I go break rule that my teacher tell never to break. Black and white conversion if this is color to black and white is done inappropriately - what wet darkroom worker would call chalk and soot too much whites and blacks. Normally seen from young wet darkroom printers. However if you have seen less than this could be interesting - this is the irony of it see enough it alll starts to look alike, see not enough every thing different looks good, see good good - every thing you do stands out and picture good a laser focus and starts to become iconic.

Yeah thanks pal, sentiments exact. I always like too see different expressions and emotions in one photo. And yes, the space is exactly there to recreate the feel of the actual scene! And i appreciate that someone like it. Not everyone cup of tea i guess.

Thanks for the comments. Greatly appreciate on the part on B&W and i am sad to agree that i am not a good B&W artist, even though i love B&W more than anything else.
Can't really understand the point of the irony part though..

Yes i agreed it's a common sight on doing groups and i am sure many may have also taken pictures of it. I like it purely because there is emotions in the picture itself. Pure, true and quiet. The headroom, being pointless and only to break teachings to you, is to create the third person view of the scene. No strong actions, yes. Not iconic, which was never the intention. It's just that i like pictures that are quiet and soft.

And honestly, i think every picture is original. We might have 'copied' ideas from other photographers as we are heavily influenced by the ever-changing world, but i think everyone's 'eye' is different. Same composition, same lighting perhaps, but always different feel. Everyone's touch is unique and so to say, every picture is different. Everyone can draw a 'last supper', but can you draw like da vinci? And the point is, do you want to draw like da vinci?

I think we meet before in SLCC... personally I don't like too much 'headroom'. still absorbing/searching/creating my own style of photography....

If you like B&W and reading - try a book called "home photography". The subjects the author chosen is simple but I like his images and sayings....

I personally like this picture in the sense that it is simple. Though it sure does look normal in most sense, at least, it is still a nice candid shot.

haha... thats a good one. Well you are not artistic enough? Just kidding really. No offense. Well i think everyone see things differently. But maybe you are right. By any means, it does not have a good composition definitely. I post it purely because i like it. Not because i am trying to be special, and think i am the special one. CS is a place where you share the pictures you like, isn't so?
