Another newbie here who just upgraded from a cool pix to a D50.
When comes to night shooting, i can't see the control panel. Is there any buttons to turn it on or i have to scotch tape a torch light with me? My friend's D70 has a button to turn it on. Don't seem to come across it in the manual. *sigh.... So how? What can i do? Am i goin to bring a torch light around? Last edited by hASHbrown_kopitiam; 10th July 2006 at 09:25 PM. |

Nope, there is no backlight for the top LCD control panel.
You'll need to go back to the old method of using an external torch to check the settings. |

D50 doesn't have this feature, so no choice but to reply on your torch light.

As for upgrading, use ur D50 to its best and then proceed straight to the D2 series. Otherwise a lot of money in between. Regards, tltan |

Note that if you need to check your settings means you might be shooting dark landscape, if so, beware of stray light from your torch/device disturbing other nearby photographers.
Don't think you'd like it if I had a SB-800 modelling light on facing you while you're taking fireworks. |

Would really suggest a mini-cylume stick (those used in fishing and are only about 2cm long type) They would last a few hours (enuff for the night shooters) and aren't too expensive either.
Use a small amount of tape to hold it down above the control panel and you should have good light for reading the LCD and yet not too much to affect others in shooting. Cheers, |
