No lah. only warrantied products.
however, i have one question. i have the original 12 months warranty. i purchased the Canon extended warranty for another 24 months. in total i have 36 months. now i just registered the online warranty. will i get 39 months in total? because the terms and conditions state that the Extended warranty will continue after the original 12 months but now my original warranty is extended to 15 months because i registered through online. anyone online? if not, i shall ask the canon rep when i pop by the service centre. thanks. |

Thanks for bringing this to our attention...
Anyway, a little OT... I suddenly remembered... I bought an Ixus800IS last month. The other half of the warranty copy was "missing". I asked the store guy and he said no worries, he needed to give the free gifts so the other half had been sent to Canon by the shop. Is there such a thing? I do have the Customer portion...shop stamp and date unfilled. I'm not being cheated rite? ![]() |

no lah. it's better as the shop collects the item for you. as long as you have the customer's copy and you keep the receipt, the warranty is valid. date unfill is even better... maybe you can backdate 1-3 months.
however, you can choose to register online with the purchase date (on the receipt) and you'll get 3 months of extra warranty. i guess they're encouraging people to register.unfilled warranty cards are not in favor of canon because the consumer can backdate the camera's purchase date by up to a year! |

good thing i procrastinated and did not send in the warranty card when i bought it last month. the canon people told me about the online registration and i just registered this morning.
i am very wary of shops that give incomplete warranty cards, etc. mine was already stamped with "redeemed something or other". i was assured that it meant the store had collected the free gift on my behalf. i rather go through the hassle of collecting it direct from canon than all these dubious methods by the various shops. |

lucky draw i don't think there's warranty, just like grey sets. if it's a gift, warranty is not transferrable..

Oh I see... Great. So there are users here who also got their warranty taken by the shops. I guess they are authorized Canon dealers that's why they could collect them on our behalf?
I think Canon will want to see the receipt so it's not easy to back date. Moreover, for compact digicams, new models come out so quickly, there is little one can cheat. They might have some codes even for which serial numbers for which production dates? ![]() |

the disparity between manufacturing date to purchase date is on procurement and logistics and shipment delays. usually fresh stocks should move within 1 month - 3 months. Unless it's an ex stock or from a retailer that is selling at a price that nobody wants to buy. You can still buy a PowerShot G5 at $899 (this shop at wisma b1) with a production date in year 2004 week 30 and claim warranty as long as the shop you bought it from is a Canon Authorised Dealer. |

Its about time canon implemented such a system.
Sony did it over a year ago. The free 3 month warranty for online registration was adopted from their model. Now all canon needs to do is provide an online portal w file storage space for users and I'll say they're about on par with the competition. I have no complains about canon products, but their after-sales support/benefits programme for loyal customers really sucks... they're way behind companies like sony which write to customers to inform their about promotions, offers and new product launches. I know there's the CPS and stuff like that, but those are PAID subscriptions. |

True... but besides the cheaper rates, members are "invited to special screenings and other exclusive canon events".
I dunno how many of these events canon organises a year, but ever since I bought their stuff, I've never received a single email or notice regarding such events. Anyway my point is that they should offer better after-sales programmes for customers, considering that they're a premium brand charging premium prices. Hopefully with this scheme they'll do something about it. ![]() |
