Default Panasonic LC1 or LX1

Recently bought a new FX01 for my wife after reading some reviews. Quite happy with it. Impressed with the Leica lens as well. Now thinking of getting a used LC1 or LX1 for myself to play with. Just seeking views as to which is better.. I have been a Sony and Nikon user before that. Thanks.

I have both (LC1 and Leica D-Lux 2). These are 2 completely different cameras with very different specs. Unless you can tell us what you really want or must have in a camera, I'm afraid that only you can decide which is better for your own use.

Hi Tomcat,

Thanks for your valuable input. I just want a camera to bring around and take snap shots much like the Leica rangefinder M6 that I have. Don't want it to be too complicated. Of course the lens must be sharp and natural.

If you like something like the Leica M6, then only the LC1 will come close. It is like a rangefinder and is the only digicam in the world to sport analog controls. Its bright and fast (f/2.0) Vario Summicron lens is the best lens Panasonic has ever produced to-date and still can't be beaten and will produce image quality which is very Leica-like and less noisy than the LX1 at low ISO. But you must be able to live with its shortcomings like only 5 Mp, no OIS and unusual filter thread size (69mm). However, with the impending launch of the look-alike L1 DSLR, I think the LC1 will reach 'collectible' status. I for one would be keeping mine to form a matching set with the L1 which I am looking forward to buying.

the images from the LC1 are more "leica like" , all thanks to the summicron lens. i only find the impressive thing abt the LX1 is compact, OIS , and the really fun 16:9 framing.

Thanks lim8395 and Tomcat. Looks like LC1 will be the camera for me then. Any used ones around? What is the market price like? I understand there are no more new one around and if everyone is keeping theirs, I may have to opt for the LX1...
