Hi All,
I have been away from this forum for nearly 1.5 years and have just gotten reaquainted with my old fren, my Canon 20D. I am finally about to go on holiday instead of work and was wondering what wide angle lens I should buy or bring along. I have the following lens: 1. 50 mm Prime 1.8 2. 17-40 mm F4 L 3. 70-200 mm F4 L I was thinking of getting a Canon wide angle lens for the panaromic views I will hope to encounter in my journey and for group picture. What would be a good choice? I look forward to your comments and replies, Thanks, Richard |

17-40L is sufficient. Bring a 70-200 IS L if you can.

I heard that the efs 10-22mm is really good on the 1.6xcrop for true wide angle requirements. Perhaps those who own his lens can comment on this ...

The 70-200 F4 I just purchased last week, so I don't think I will be getting the IS version anytime soon.
I am thinking about the 10-22. Can someone with any experience with this lens tell me if this is a good buy? I would like to find a unbiased review of this lens. Thanks, |

I've read many very positive reviews on the efs 10-22. It's definitely a WIDE angle lens on the 20D. If the 17-40 isn't wide enough for you, I would say get the EFS 10-22.
The other option would be the sigma 12-24 which has the advantage of being a EF mount....in case you upgrade to a 1D or 5D in the future.... I have the 10D and the 17-40 is wide enough for me, most of the time. Take 2 steps back and you'll get an even wider angle ![]() |

the 10-22 works like a 16-35mm on a 1.6x crop camera. if you have used wide angle lens on a FF camera before, 10-22 is no diff
i'm using e 10-22 for weddings, just that i'm using from the 22mm first instead ![]()

In term of lens distortion, I only edited the 'sunrise hunter'. For other photos, I just resized and add contrast. Hope this is help.

i love my 12-24 tokina when i used my 20D/300D ..
amazing lens.. even the saleman at b&h told me that it was a better buy than the canon. and at almost 2/3'rd's the price, you can't complain. better built + constant aperature = win.. unless of course you need the 10mm. keep in mind that the 12-24 would be able to mount of the 1-series camera's as well. |

Brother Richard,
Get the EF-S 10-22mm lens. You won't regret unless you are going to FF in the near future. The perspective is simply breath taking. Don't just listen to advice blindly, test it out yourself. By the way, bringing the 70-200mm f2.8L IS for your tour will "kill" you (~1.5kg). Believe or not is up to you. You won't enjoy your tour unless you are on a photography trip and not family tour, etc. Bear in mind that you have other gear to bring too such as body, flash, etc...... |
