Hi hi guys... I am a super duper newbie who knows nuts about cams but got myself a 30d thanks to clubsnap!! hehe. Anyway... with the use of the 580EX flash and my dad's old camera lens 28-80 ( i think so )... i did these first shots with my new cam at an Indian function. Pls feel free to condemn and criticise!!
http://opposites.multiply.com/photos/album/1 Thanks guys!! |

Changing the shooting perspective, i.e. shooting lower or higher then normal eye level, is certainly not a newbie thing to do.
Nicely done.

My favourite is the one with the little girl peeking between the sari's. A little PP would really make this image pop.

have been doing lots of wedding videography and always or most of the time end up with a photographer who is a canon user. From reviews and from seeing what the canon cam can do, i
decided that the best buy that i could afford is the 30d (not easy man.... had to slow tok to my wife to get the extra cash from her). ...the photographers really made me drool!!! |

Hi Blade777,
To comment on a couple. Pic 427 is a nice capture, but the focus was not set on the girl which is a shame. I like pic 404 but the person (part of) against the back is a distraction. As in Pic 436. Shoot, shoot, shoot. Post, post, post. Cheers ![]()

0404 - relationship betwenn your subjects and what they are looking at is unclear. you either need to explain it in words or use wider angle. as a single frame the expression is rather uninteresting.
0436 - cropping off the plate of offerings below is a bad idea. given the amount of non-performing space above the groom's head, you could have easily tilted your angle down somemore to give a more complete picture. 0480 - what's this picture about? 0498 - shooting up this way has given you a large blank ceiling space as you have noticed. usually for such ceremonies i prefer a top down shot, filling the frame with people and their activities. 0340 - the focus is on the wrong place imo. should have focussed on the hand and not the upper arm. 0427 - quite a nice frame, but lighting a little flat. can compensate with some post processing to up the contrast. 0514 - either your lens is not wide enough or you're not standing back enough. cropping the bride off when she's the centre of attention in the ceremony does not work at all. do take sometime to learn about how to post pictures http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=94574 and also the guidelines of critique corner http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=139941 ![]()

first... if u consider urself a newbie. why on earth do you want to take up a ceremony when u are not even familar with your own equipment ??
second... i dunno how much the couple pay you. but felt rather dissapointed. third... i dunno how the couple is going to print that page of the coffee table...4000 X 4000..... its a square.... forth. i feel after looking all of them..... and its somebody's engagement...fifth. i think if u had printed the coffee table book. i felt that its rather rude to put is "Indian Engagement etc etc..." coz i dun think u wanna the photographer to write "CHINESE wedding or CHINESE etc etc" on ur coffee table book. it just lookks odd. maybe a name on it or a date on it would be more proper. overall. the pics just dun look properly exposed to me. and dun tell me my screen is not calibrated. because it has been calibrated....

aiya, dont make fun of him just cos he says hes a newbie with a 30D and a 580EX..
i also am newbie, also got 30D and 580EX.. theres also people out there, their first proper camera is 1Ds Mark II... doesnt mean anything really... just that they want to spend on good equipment.. to some people, this might be a lot of money. but theres also people will think nothing of spending 50k on a set of cables for their stereo... so its all relative i guess.. dont get me wrong, im not rich by any stretch of the imagination. just i had it in my mind that i wanted the 20/30D, and saved up for it. newbie or not. doesnt matter. problem is that he dun understand how his camera function. he is unsure of his fundamentals on photography.
and that is why this thread is moved from critiques corner to here ? because cannot stand it ? i dunno. i think many people will understand what i meant when they see the links above.
