I pity the cab drivers...instead of reducing their daily rental, the decision was made to increase cab fare. Nowadays, cannot make ends meet driving taxi. It's very difficult to find relief drivers and most people look down on cab drivers....

Why must be 30 and above to drive a cab? Why couldn't the age be lowered instead of raising the maximum age from 70 to 75?? Why why??

I took a cab recently and the old driver probably >65. I almost puked in the cab because he always jams his brake and uses low gear to speed up.

I think singapore should not rise its prices. It should lower its rental rate instead of rising consumer prices. We cannot compared to other countries such as Australia, British or US ect cos taxi is not regularly travelled by local as most of them have cars themselves which are cheap so it is quite alrite for them to charge high as the taxi driver have limited customer daily, however in Singapore cars are so expensive and now prices of taxi still rises, all transport are getting expensive. If singapore are to rise the price of taxi, should they reduce the price of cars like in other countires? Singapore cars is 3 times as high as in Australia for everyone infor here. If now taxi is rising its prices, sooner or later, the bus fares will also goes up.

You wanna talk about cars? Compare? The price I paid for my can buy 5 the same car in any of the 3 countries. If they can buy cars, still need to rely on public transport? Still need to be at the mercy of hikes? What's the point of comparing when everyone take everything so apathetically, making non-valid, non-basis comparisons in totally different scenarios?

Aiyoh relax.... if cab too expensive then don't take lor...
but i understand lah... need to do some ranting
then start thinking about ways to increase your income
    peace peace

if your current employment/unemployment/selfempolyment cannot afford your lifestyle, maybe its high time you guys do something for yourself, find better paying jobs or opportunities. I really feel that most of us are just too comfortable, just being negative will not solve the issue, think positively, do something for yourself.

Better still lower your expectations and be happy without cabrides or cars. Ride a bicycle like someone say. Live simpler and be content.

Yo Oracle, how are ya doing?

It's true that buying a car is the most expensive here, but there are other obstacles to driving a car elsewhere that it is not possible to drive regularly. Australia is probably not a good comparison because they are blessed with lots of land, low population density, etc.

    (i) the cost of maintaining a car park lot at work in cities like NY, HK, Tokyo and London is exhorbitant. In the end, most people resort to public transport and only use the car on weekends.

(ii) even if the driver can afford (i), he may not get a car park lot e.g. your entire company is only allocated one car park lot. It is not uncommon to say that even the boss does not drive to work.

(iii) in addition, some cities levy congestion charges, similar to our ERP, and they are not cheap, although we are certainly heading in the same direction.

I wish this is true but work hard does not necessarily mean success and its just too easy to blame less fortunate that they deserve where they are now because they are too comfortable to the point of being lazy. Your scenario is too theoretical to be easily achievable. Sure it happens but only for the lucky ones.

Factors for success also mean luck, people you know, how rich you started out with (which can affect how much education you can afford), people you have to sleep with, ass to kiss and/or kick, poly or uni, etc etc.

And those people with dependents cannot afford to quit and find a higher paying job because it is not a guarantee that he can do so, and each gamble he takes will affect those depending on him. Which is also whom the hike will affect. Taxi is not always a luxury if you have old / invalid people to take care of (some bus now cater to wheelchair bound but they are still few). Some have families and do groceries once a week and therefore taxi is a must because maintaining a car is expensive. Anyway, I can afford to choose not to take taxi that is why I'm not much concern with it.

I understand that this is a change that is bound to happen sooner or later but it is also understandable that people affected will want to voice their opinions. But lets face it, it will not change anything except a temporary reprieve and maybe a wishful thinking that this will not extend to MRT, bus, PUB and other basic commodity that will in turn raise other goods. But as I said, its wishful thinking which still makes you feel good for a while because there is a sense of false hope.

    i have a vision

coffee price increase, mgmt drink coffee complain price ex , so must increase pay , increase the cab fare charge to consumer, then there is a reason to increase rental, this translates to higher income , otherwise ,

transfer the diesel / petrol cost to the driver thru the cab fare increase , cab driver quits cause getting more n more diff to survive, cab companies employ foreign talent to drive the cab n who can accept with the lower pay.

either way , at the end of the year , when comes to the financial reporting , wa la, got higher revenue for company = deem good company mgmt = higher bonus for the mgmt .

the income will widen further for the rich n the poor.

no 1 der i see so many couples dun 1 2 have children , the the rich 1s just too busy to have children , soon , singapore will have lesser singaporean but transformed into a city with talents from all over the world who is searching their first pot of gold.

if you are struck with the mentatily working hard=success, its so our parents generation. Nowadays you need to work smart and be a risk taker and do more to earn your keep, the world is ever changing. Working hard for a promotion or raise can only get you so far, working hard to survive is the toughest, you have to work everyday of your life and die working. You complaint about raising costs of living and gramble on your daily needs increasing.

The way to go about it is to break the cycle and leap forward. Ever hear about a millionaire's mentaily? Ever notice how the rich can afford their keep? Its not being negative about the way of the world but how to go about doing it and be happy and positive attitude and an open mind to accept and try new ways to earn money.

I wonder, for every millionaire who succeeded by breaking out, are there thousands and tens of thousands of people who broke out, failed, and were destroyed in the process.

It's not about being negative or postive, its about also considering both sides of the coin and the realities of the entire matter. Yes, having dreams and aspirations and trying to be a entrepreneur is good, but realism will also have to be considered.

You are only considering one side.
