mainly depending on what you want to do with it..........

if using for "power" applications, I would suggest PC, because avenues for upgrades are wider..... but if you're pretty much stagnent and there isn't a need to upgrade, and you like something that looks nice... then go for Apple.

but somehow... the hardware apple have is slightly better... I'm reffering to the screens here, the same photo appears so much way way better (accurate) on a apple monitor without much work....... I believe this can be achieved using a PC, but you might need to put in more work in configuring it.

    3. learn photoshop

why i am inclined towards the ibook is becos:

    1. pretty
    2. small & need not dust much

    btw, what are "power" applications?

i dun see the need for me to keep upgrading - just buy one that will suit my needs until it conks out after 3-4 years?

the latest ibook you can get for about 1.7k without all the frills...

but for photoshop, you'll need alot of memory.. but then also depending on what type of images you're editing...... I believe if you don't handle BIG images.. it should still be ok

currently apple is moving to their new OS, OSX, but I found that most ibook/powerbook still underpowered to run OSX, my friend have the G3-700mhz ibook and he still say it is slow, I have the G4-500 powerbook and it is also slow on my system.

hence most probably you'll be running os9.

    1. surf the net

PC responds slightly faster.... interms of user interaction (clicks, drags etc etc) with the computer..... but.. that's very very minimal.

    2. email

there is outlook express for mac, I'm using netscape mail.....

There is also Office for mac.

    3. learn photoshop

this like I say earlier, it depends on what photos you are editing..... should be able to handle most stuff.

one thing to consider is that the ibook is pretty small, and it is PRETTY so it is one that you'll be able to carry with you more often compared to a larger notebook... hence more productive..... your milage may vary.

If you don't play games, it makes the 2 systems pretty much on par...... so it really boil down to your astatic preference

For image manipulation and design work, an apple is the way to go. Not only is the screen but also on it's processor/built, it has significant advantage over PC.

However, do note that the price of ownership for apple is much higher than of PC. If you take account into software, then you probably have to get everything original. Software support for apple is much lesser than of PC, most software is release to the PC market first then to the apple.

For your requirements, I believe an apple will suit you well but you can do that with a much cheaper pc.

like maybe video editing, or edit large images.....

not because mac cannot handle, but I'm not too sure the ibook can handle that sort of processing effectively.

Apple have 2 type of processor

G3 and G4, G4 is a more advanced and more powerful processor, all ibooks uses the G3.

big is like 20mb pictures..... ok to me that's big

and for memory, try to go at least 384mb.

the ibook have built in 128mb, so a 256mb cost about slightly over $100, which is not expensive. no need to go back to apple for memory as their's is more expensive, just go SLS.....

it wont be that easy to get "friendly" copies of mac games... and somehow, online games something the java on a mac cannot support 100% ........ maybe I should go look for upgrades I heard that the new broweser from mozilla is better with the java support

I'm reffering to yahoo games and such
