Tamron SP 24-135 is pretty darn sharp... Get that one if that is focal length that you are looking for.

my latest addition is a tamron 28-300 and the thing is sharp. as sharp as the 18-70 kit lens and af is really fast even at 300mm. bought it off ebay, no regrets at all. great walk-about lens, reduces the dust i collect when on my street shoots

sorry for bumping the thread, but having dilemma too. I'm getting a lens with focal range like cheongkiat. Have a quote brand new for a Tamron 28-105 f/2.8 for $1.2k and is bidding for a Tamron 24-135 for $400 in BnS.
What I need is a sharp lens. Now down to $ vs fast lens. Intention is to replace my kit lens, so call walkabout lens. Care to suggest? Thks. |

Minolta 28-135 f4-4.5 is a real sharp lens too, the only issue I have with the lens is the minimum focus distance, I think about 1m or so? Tamron version is around .5m or so... Hart |

Any comments of the Tamron SP 24-135mm for indoor / low light conditions? Intend to use more for indoor shoots like exhibition halls, for birthdays and such.

Not much problem with me on the 1m min focus unless I'm indoor for event photography.. What I wish is to have the wider range on this lens.. 24-135mm.. Hart, do you think it's a good choice to exchange this Minolta 28-135 f4-4.5 with Tamron 24-135mm? I know you have this Tamron lens and want to get more info.. as compare to Minolta 28-135 f4-4.5. What I like Minolta 28-135 f4-4.5 is the sharpness + color.. So far, the best among those lenses that I have.. better than beercan. again, just my opinion.Anyone has any feedback on this sigma 28-70mm f2.8 EX DG lens.. as compare to KM 28-75 f2.8 D? |

Ok... here is my opinion... Remember my background and my area of photography is event, portrait and wedding, so my opinion will based on those area. KM 28-75 f2.8 Great lens at very reasonable price, focussing distance is great, f2.8 is not that sharp, but acceptable for people photography. f3.5 is very sharp. May not able to take the abuse from extended use. AF speed is excellent (not comparing with SSM). KM28-135 f4-4.5 Great lens for sharpness and color. Acceptable AF speed and quite a balance lens when use with 7D with grip. Great reach for one lens without compromising on sharpness. 1m min focusing is quite a hassle as you can take tight crop images of the face. If you are in party room, you are stuck. For outdoor, its great lens. I use it a lot. Tamron SP 24-135 f3.5-4.5 (or 5.6??) Great all round lens, sharpness is excellent and color is great. I use it for birthday parties and kids photography. AF is slower than the KM version, but the min focus distance give you a lot of flexibility. I use the lens for product shot as well. One thing people will complaint is the AF speed. This used to be my lens of choice if I had to go out with just 1 lens. Tamron SP 28-105 f2.8 Great lens and the size of filter will amazed a lot of your client. Sharpness at f2.8 is not as good, but acceptable. Close down to f4 the lens is very sharp. Slightly warm in colour but acceptable. If I have a choice of 1 lens... no doubt, Tamron 24-135 will be my choice. If you can use flash to do an event, any of above lenses are good... but 24-135 is very flexible. f2.8 is great, but not always the best choice as you need to close down 1 stop anyway. Indoor without natural light and flash, you are looking for trouble to use any of above lenses. Oh, yes, definately worth the change from KM 28-135 to T 24-135.
