May I suggest something? Since Zaren is our leader of the pack, can Zaren do the assigning instead? This is because we don't want to end up one old bird mentoring all the newbies and the rest cannot really do much. Also to avoid the "I don't like him so I don't want him to be my mentor", etc...

Also, for me, I don't know who I should PM because I am pretty sure the old birds are all equally good. Choosing one is such a tough job...

If Zaren is to assign, being the leader, his decision is final. Nothing much can be said about it. Mentors and understudies assigned are pretty much in control and even. What do you guys think?

Darren did mention in his post that Zaren will do the assigning of the buddies.

hi zeckson... you're not really strictly a "newbie" by darren's definition... the buddy system is first and foremost to help newbies enjoy their stay in CS becos he/she doesn't know anyone. of course it can also be used to foster friendships among oldies and to share photography knowledge. for the "oldies" out there (you know who you are!), pls feel free to buddy up with anyone you like. just be on standby to buddy newbies when they come along!
this should be a win-win situation for all...i don't think i should be in a position to make "final" decisions. as for me, i am not really into fashion/portraiture photography so I won't be able to provide much help there. however, i can share some of my experience in street shooting if you like.

Hi catchlights, yes this buddy system is CS forum only (for now at least!).

i think your english is fine actually.
you can help by helping newbies find their feet in CS, and to share some of your knowledge/experience in photography.

a newbie should never be too shy to ask "simple" or "stupid" questions of his/her CS buddy.

    thx for helping!

haha....that's a good idea. oldie volunteer buddies can give more info what system they r using/ what genre of photography they are into etc... for the time being i'm relying on the CS profiles to find a fit for the buddies.

Okay then, I shall update the list here then. I included my equipment and genre so that understudies can have a better understanding. I recommend other mentors to update their stuff too, all just for the understudies.

    Volunteered Mentors:

    1. Zaren
    2. Ortega (Nikon user, genre: Macro)
    3. Eikin (Nikon user, genre: Landscape)
    4. Del_CtrlnoAlt (Minolta & Sony user)
    5. ClipperSG
    6. Knoxknocks (Canon user)
    7. Catchlights (Nikon user, genre: Portraits)
    8. Zeckson Chow (1 year Nikon D70 user, genre: Portraits)
    9. SnapSnap

    Understudies:

    1. Dreamerz
    2. Htthach
    3. Evq (Canon user)
    4. InitialE24 (Nikon user)
    5. Longkangman
    6. Errz
    7. S11loop
    8. LeiNaj
    9. DeathAngel
    10. Chrome
    11. Benedium

Edit: Oops... Didn't see the latest version. Updated. SnapSnap added.

Of course it is up to eikin if he don't mind hehe.
Would be nice to go on outings with him also
If I turn out to be a lousy understudy, then you can always ask zaren to reassign hehe.
I have a reputation for disobedience and laziness... but I want to turn over a new leaf.
