Default How to use a Film Picker

This post seems to have attracted comments before it was fully up. But hey thats fantastic.

I recently got a film picker (you dont really need one, if you follow the questions on this thread http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=201924 it is quite evident). However if you do decide to get a film picker, this is how to use it. I didnt find a easy to use guide anywhere, so decided to create one.

1) This is what a Film picker looks like. It has 3 pieces of rubber (only 2 go into the film canister) and 2 tags to push the rubber tongues into the canister and pull them out. They are labelled A & B as can be seen

2) Same thing just seen from the reverse side.

3) Now for testing purposes take a unused roll of film....

4) ...and wind it till the film leader has gone into the cartridge.

5) Now take your film picker and extend the 2 long tongues out a bit by pushing out tabs A & B

I believe there are A and B pushers.

1. First insert the picker in the flim cart.
2. push A pusher in
3. turn the knob of the film (direction toward the picker)
4. Till u hear a 'click' sound
5. push B pusher in
6. Together with A and B pull them out.
7. the film leader is OUT !! :P

6) Push the 2 tongues into the film cartridge and...

7) ..push the film cartridge against the body of the film picker and push both tabs A & B to the right. Push the film picker upwards until the tongues are pushing up against the top of the cartridge (the leader is at the top remember)

8) Now push tab A to the left (towards the cartridge) till the end

9) Gently rotate the film in the direction shown until you hear a faint click (do this slowly)

10) Now push tab B to the left fully

11) Pull both tabs A & B 3/4th of the way out of the cartridge (towards the right)

12) Hold the Tabs with your right thumb and pull the cartridge away from the film picker. The film leader should have come out with the film picker.

If it doesnt work for a couple of times.. repeat slowly or get someone to show you in person..

Hope that this thread if of some help..Cheers

I used to use a crocodile nosed plier to get the top of the cartridge off once inside the darkbag.. just wanted to know how to use a film picker and hence got one..

Double sided tape worked for me once but after that it gave me a lot of trouble...Can openner definitely works.
