wow, you managed to capture the flying birds in motion so sharp. Mine turned out blur. AI servo huh?

[QUOTE=+evenstar]hi all, just some of my shots today. very poor shots compared to my visit last year...many blurred and OOF shots. using TC was bad...

    yup, 70-200 with 2x TC

sharpness and focus is not really there..colours aren't as punchy as without TC too..

this was a shot with the 300 f2.8 the last time i went there

ic ic... i did try continuous AF, which i was using almost the whole day. when the birds came flying, the camera couldn't get a good focus as the birds were moving every sec.
did i do something wrong? basically, i just try to point the AF frame on the bird. i didnt aim for the head as a slightly movement of the bird and my hand would means i would be AF-ing the background. also i try not to frame the birds too tight. cos i tend to lose track of the bird totally and i would miss the shot since i dunno the bird fly where liao
can share some tips or techniques??

yeah i think the 300 pics looked more detailed, esp ur avatar. no offence, but the 2nd pic taken with 300mm, some how the bird's "fur" looked more like lines, esp the bottom of bird. issit due to the shallow DOF? cos the fur on the head looks sharp and detailed

yup, the bottom part is OOF already. f2.8 DOF is rather shallow. only the eyes area is sharp, others is OOF

ic... hmm the F2.8 in DSLR and smaller sensor cams really a lot of difference. i dun tihnk any digital cams with small sensor can achieve these DOFs

To be honest, this was my first outing with fellow clubsnappers. Have only shoot on my own or with close friends on a more informal basis before this. And having started with DSLR only in late feb, still quite green and blur.

Good experience for me. Shooting moving subjects requires good anticipation quick judgement. I realized I made a mistake during the JBP shoot by being too kiasu. I just click, click, click non-stop away. What I should have done is ensure that I get the exposure and composition right in the first place. It is better to be patient and get real good shots rather than a high percentage of poor shots.

Lets organise more outings to sharpen our skills ...
