#1 - which part of the picture are you trying to focus? perhaps, you might want to try focusing on the head or eye of the insect, as it gives the illusion that the whole picture is in focus
#2 - might want to consider recompositing the shot to reduce the clutter in the picture #3 - i would prefer a close up of the insect, instead of having too much space in the picture #5 - nice background, but then, try to choose a better angled shot for the insect, #6 - did you set the white balance? because there is a greenish cast over the picture and also try to get a lower angle shot, most probably, an eye level shot to give the fly a more majestic flare! Anyway, keep shooting and keep practicing, macro photography is fun if you have the patience! Last edited by Jayson_Ang; 20th June 2006 at 04:51 PM. |

Hi,
IMO, #1 & #4 seems soft or OOF. Composition wise is good. #2 is a little messy on the foreground. All the pics seems a little overcasted with green, especially #6. Hope you don't mind me commenting. Just my view. ![]() |

- Ya! i agreed, actually purposely put up these photos with the greenish look...my white balance is on auto. But i always seems to get some greenish tones whenever i shoot at f8 or less, is this normal?...any advice from anyone? |

Hi meurt,
I think some of the pics the background is too messy to bring out ur center of attraction, the subject. The compo is good and refreshing especially, #4 and #5 I like. Anyway, I think it would be better to control the DOF using Aperture priority or Manual where you set the aperture f-stop and this will allow you to have creamy background or if you think necessary, additional features in the background. =) Hope that hellps from someone who is learning macro as well. rEgards, tltan |

Well said, tltan.
I usually play with aperture. Try to use f11 and above. When started out, I used even smaller f.stop. But realised that the DOF is too shallow. ![]() |
