I like the first subject most, but the large OOF foreground in this pic does disturb me a bit. Anyway this is your trademark.

I always have this question in my mind. How u manage to get such sharp images hand holding the camera. Most or all the time, the force point is spot on.

thank you all, i am glad you like them

tanhb: i use the Nikon 105mm macro and so i use a shutter speed of at least 1/160 to reduce the chance of camera shake. I also employ the correct hand holding technique.
I also try to get as much support as possible from my surroundings.

I take time to get the focus right,
also i use a DK-21M or a seagull angle finder to magnify my viewfinder.

i only post the pictures which are in focus,
those OOF ones get deleted

I hope this information helps

Hi ortega.I have always admire at the way you hand held your camera and took crisp sharp images.Take for example #1. could you enlighten on the flash used, setting and placement.
Do you use any closeup attachment?

• for #1 i went back to using me pop up flash of my D70

• since I prefer a image with nice light instead of more DOF
I shoot using S mode with my shutter speed set to 1/160 or faster to reduce camera shake.

• I am using a Nikon 105mm micro lens only no other closeup attachments (for now)

• I try to balance the ambient light with flash output

• focusing is done manually by moving the camera forward and backward
until the subject is in focus, keep the DOF in mind when doing this

• i try to make sure that there is no background to cast nasty shadows

i hope it helps
