Thread: Noob question on extension tubes.

Default Noob question on extension tubes.

Hi all, I just had a noob question to ask.

Issit possible to use an extension tube on my Sigma 70-300 f4-5.6 to closer the minimum focusing distance?
It seems that the minimum focusing distance of 0.95m in macro mode is still too long for me.

Oh if can, what brand is good?
I looking at about 50mm tube. Or maybe get 10mm, 20mm and 30mm and try to stack together.
AF is not a must as I use manual focusing most of the time.

If possible can provide the prices as well? On tight budget here.

Sry for the noob questions because I got no experience with extension tubes

Get a set of Kenko/Teleplus/Uniplus tubes with electrical contacts so that metering is preserved. Given that an extension tube is just a tube (Nikon's own extension tubes are really just that: a tube with no electrical contact at all!), there's very little to choose from or fuss about.

However, for your 70-300, I believe a closeup filter would be a better option than a tube. Your 70-300 isn't the brightest of lens... with a 50mm extension behind it, I doubt very much that you can focus through the view finder. Try the either the Nikon or Canon 2 element closeup filters... they have the best quality.
