caught these guys at e zoo today.. quite bored wif e animals so decided to play wif my canon 250D close-up lens. C&C appreciated..

Very good for a first attempt. Did you use flash?
#1: DOF is quite shallow, your apeture setting is F3.5, so you could use F8 like the rest. But I think you got the eyes right...a bigger vs of the pic would enable us to see clearer. #2: Good focus on eyes. Can do abit of flash on the face...cos it looks dark. #3: Shots from the rear are at best to be avoided....unless its really unique.

yes, i agree
very good for a first attempt #1 is nice, I am ok with the shallow dof, as the OOF areas are not too distracting just needs some cropping for better composition not too excited about #2 and #3 yes please post a bigger picture nice for #1, hope to see more from you

btw, no flash was used.. i hafnT gt a diffuser for my vivitar DF200 yet. so dare nt use flash.. okiez.. point noted. will frm e front.. |

#1 Nice even green background.
#3 Looks like a mantidfly, though I cannot really make out its wings. Normally rest flush with the body. |

hey i also got this mantid fly, so is this a mantis or a fly? hybrid? its size is large as a giant red ant ..

Hmm.... the insect you posted might just be a normal preying mantis. Cannot see any wings on it. As far as I know Mantispidae have 2 pairs of wings. Maybe someone else can help. ![]() |
