Very good for a first attempt. Did you use flash?

#1: DOF is quite shallow, your apeture setting is F3.5, so you could use F8 like the rest. But I think you got the eyes right...a bigger vs of the pic would enable us to see clearer.

#2: Good focus on eyes. Can do abit of flash on the face...cos it looks dark.

#3: Shots from the rear are at best to be avoided....unless its really unique.

yes, i agree

very good for a first attempt

#1 is nice, I am ok with the shallow dof, as the OOF areas are not too distracting
just needs some cropping for better composition

not too excited about #2 and #3

yes please post a bigger picture
nice for #1, hope to see more from you

#1 Nice even green background.
#3 Looks like a mantidfly, though I cannot really make out its wings. Normally rest flush with the body.

Its neither. They are more related to antlions & lacewings.

Hmm.... the insect you posted might just be a normal preying mantis. Cannot see any wings on it. As far as I know Mantispidae have 2 pairs of wings. Maybe someone else can help.

Maybe it decided not to fly ... just kidding.

Actually I don't even know that there are 2 types of Mantis.
