Prime lens vs standard kit lens...

I have a friend who is considering getting a prime lens. He has a standard zoom lens that came with his Nikon SLR. How does the 50mm 1.8D AF prime lens compare with a standard zoom lens?

World of a difference! You will see the improve in sharpness even with 4R prints. You also get faster speed, great for low-light conditions. On useful thing you lose of course is zoom, which can be restrictive esp if u are shooting events.

I'm speaking from the canon equivalent, should be the same for nikon.
