    "LIVING WITH DEMENTIA"
    A NATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION
    (in commemoration of the 100th year of Alzheimer’s Disease)

    The objective of this photography competition is to present a more positive human image of dementia. Photographs taken should reflect the reality of living with dementia, respecting the dignity of people with dementia and focusing on the person behind the disease instead of the illness itself. The theme, ‘Living with Dementia’ will otherwise be left open to interpretation.

    Category 1: Student (Submissions from schools (secondary and tertiary levels)
    Category 2: Open (the public with no age group limit)

    Rules
    1. Each individual can submit a maximum of 3 photographs only together with the official entry form. Official entry forms can be downloaded below.

    2. Photographs should reach us latest by 31 July 2006. Attractive prizes awaits the winners!

    3. Winning entries may stand a chance to compete internationally at the Alzheimer’s Disease International’s conference in Berlin on 12 to 14 October 2006.

    4. Participants should note that the photographs submitted will not be returned to them after the competition and their works maybe exhibited for public viewing and for judging purposes.

    TERMS AND CONDITIONS

    Procedures and Eligibility
    .Each photographer can submit a maximum of three photographs only
    .Anyone can participate but each participant can only take part in one category
    .The ‘School’ category is open to secondary school and tertiary (JC, polytechnics and universities) students only.
    .The ‘Open’ category is open to the public (and this also includes people with dementia and their caregivers.
    .Note that the photographs taken by people with dementia should be clearly marked.
    .Submissions reached after the closing date, 31 July 2006, will not be entertained.
    .Entries must be accompanied by the official entry form. (please write clearly and all fields completed and signed before submission)
    .All photographs are non-returnable so please make copies before you before you send.

    Photo Format
    .Prints or digital images in colour or black and white will be accepted. The photographs should be unmounted and dimensions of the photographs should be between 12 x 19 cm (5 x 7") and 18 x 24 cm (7 x 9") in size, or if submitting a digital image, the resolution should be at least 2000 x 1500 pixels.
    .No slides or negatives will be accepted.
    .Clearly write photographer’s name on the back of all prints. If you know the names of the people captured in the image and would like to submit a caption in a separate sheet of paper, please do so.
    .Include all this information when submitting digital images via email or on a disc.

    Judging
    .Criteria for judging: creativity, originality, aesthetics, quality of visual, message. (how it fits theme)
    .A panel of judges will decide the winners and runners-up for the two categories.
    .The judges’ decision is final and appeals will not be entertained.
    .Winning entries will be sent to Berlin for international judging and prizes presented at the 22nd conference of Alzheimer's Disease International in Berlin, Germany from 12-14 October 2006

    Copyright Issues
    .The photographer should seek prior permission from the subjects captured in their images before submission for the competition.
    .Photographers of all entries must guarantee that they have consent of people featured in their photographs. If the person in the photograph has dementia and is unable to give informed consent themselves, this must be obtained from the carer or family.
    .The photographs submitted should be original works of the photographer’s and not borrowed or copyrighted, of which to breach this would mean immediate disqualification.
    .Copyright of images will remain with the photographer but ADA will be entitled to use any submitted images in photography exhibitions and publications, to promote the aims of the organisation in any media worldwide.

    Indemnity
    .The Alzheimer’s Disease Association will not be held responsible for any claims arising out of any mishap, damage or loss caused in the participation in the event and this includes costs and expenses incurred as a result of such claims.

    What are the prizes for this competition?

    Prizes will be the same for Student and Open Category.

    First Prize: $300 cash and $300 Stanley Lim Colour Centre voucher.

    Second Prize: $250 cash and $250 Stanley Lim Colour Centre voucher.

    Third Prize: $150 cash and $150 Stanley Lim Colour Centre voucher.

    05 Consolation Prize: $100 cash and $100 Stanley Lim Colour Centre voucher.

    Some of you might wonder what is the use of the voucher?

    The voucher is mainly for attending courses in Stanley Course Colour Centre and renting of studio.

    There are many people asking how to shoot this theme. So there will be a representive from Alzheimer's Disease Association and Stanley from SLCC to talk about the topic. The date will be fix on 02 July 2006 (Sunday) at 4pm. Interested particpants can come down to Stanley Lim Colour Centre in Midlink Plaza to attend. The entry form will be given out to the particpants on the spot.
