Hi, just got my S45 and realise that the lens that is behind the 1st glass(lens) got some funny looking residue.. like look kinda like mould or fungus to me... as well as a reasonable amount of dust on the sides of the entire lens, which is visible under close inspection and strong lighting.
I believe that this is not normal for the S45 ... can anyone confirm this... (me previous owner of the S40, heh.... clear as crystal). |

Yes... I will be going back to the shop to exchange it. Thou the "residue" doesn't affect the picture quanlity at the moment... if really is fungus, the fungus will spread right?

Are you referring to the specks at the corners of the lens which you can't rub off?
I got the same on mine too! I went back to Canon Customer Centre and they brought their set to show me it's on every set... Should I trust them? Do let me know if you manage to get one without the specks... (they actually looked like burnt marks at four corners of the lens) ![]() |

Yes, My friend got a S45 with almost no "burnt" marks. Very very little and almost un-noticeable.
Mine however got a slightly larger patch... the few sets which I examine when i brought back to change had the same problem... some had less... and some was way worse...QA not that good heh... mabbe the lack of QC/QA cause this cam to have a lower selling price than the previous S40 cams. |

Anyway, canon tech support also confirmed with me that the cloudy stuff is common on all their S45. I guess this could very cause many S45 with slightly more clouds to be left on the shelf for a long long time. Like I said, anyone buying can pick a nice cloud-free cam as you are the person cashing out like 1K for the cam. |
