That's definitely a useful lens on full frame, will it be replacing 28-70mm f/2.8 G? Though I think the cheaper 28-75mm f/2.8 D should stay, unless Sony don't want it to canabalize their own market?

hmm maybe that's why no 28-75 lens released. heh, wonder if there will be a 17-35 version.

Great news... if this lens release, I will dump the 28-75 and get this one.. and if Sony bought a FF DSLR... (I think they will), then it will be even great news.. only question now is the $$$ of the DSLR.

well, we can't win... really..

its a 36-105

anybody got any idea if the CZ lenses are DT or FF? cos the 16-80mm seem too good to be true to be a FF, and this lens also dunno if its FF or DT... if its FF, think its a good buy for D7 as well... can really drop the 28-75 already.

35mm-105mm is perfect!!! (after crop with 24-70), 35mm is much wider than 42mm (from crop of 28mm).

best part is it'll be compatible with a D7 rite... who would've thought we see a CZ on a Minolta film camera...

think should be more than the 28-70G, since the 24-70 replace and enhance it... only thing is whether is it as good as it sounds.

When the lens appears next month or later we can confirm its performance. Lets hope the performance is worth the price.

Like to BBB, especially the Zeiss, but some of the lenses are just way out of my league

Shall keep my KM 28-75mm f/2.8 until price really fall.

I still think in terms of bokeh STF wins, colour and sharpness unknown, but zeiss can auto-focus, especially for indoor.

Since the 16-80mm is very similar to Sony R1's Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar lens 14.3-71.5mm, so will the lens performance of R1 similar to the 16-80mm? Although the rear element of the R1's lens can get a lot closer to the sensor than normal SLR, which give the R1 lens some advantage.
Here's the review or R1's lens
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/R1/R1A6.HTM
the R1 lens seem to be quite good
Quote:
With all the above as a caveat, when we look at the R1's optical test results, we see graphs so good that they're almost boring. Sharpness across the frame and across the aperture and focal length range is almost perfect, as shown by the exceptionally low and uniform blur numbers.
Worst-case chromatic aberration is likewise low, and the average CA numbers are lower still, indicating that what CA is present doesn't extend very far into the frame. Shading (or vignetting, as it is more popularly called) is also very low, reaching a maximum of about a third of an f-stop at the 24mm equivalent focal length and maximum aperture, but in all other cases being less than 1/4 stop.
Worst-case geometric distortion is about 0.8% barrel, at maximum wide angle, dropping rather rapidly to about 0.2% pincushion at 20mm actual/35mm equivalent focal length, rising just a bit at 50mm equivalent, and then gradually decreasing to nearly zero at maximum telephoto.

what's good about the R1 is there's no mirror slapping sound, so you can shoot very quietly, esp in conditions such as in an orchestra concert where silence is a must.
