Defishing Min 16mm Fish-eye & FOV Compare

Hi Pals..

I just recently looking for a close to 24mm FOV solution on a prime and got hold of a Minolta 16mm Fish-Eye. Well due to the fish eye distortion, the out of the camera image from this lens may not be that great as there are some distortion.

Well after a couple of weeks of research on the web, i finally found a couple of solution and finally come to use this plug-in by Richard Rosenman (check out his websit and works in DI.....ooooohh!!! power!!!).

Here is the defished image using the lens distortion correction plug-in by Richard Rosenman.
I guess..if it works for the Minolta 16mm. Then it should work too for the others like the Zenitar.

After: ~24mm FOV


And here is a quick compare output of the 18-200 at widest. The amount of information in the frame is quite significant.

Comparison by direct Overlapping:


*Notice how well the edge of the building just mate over. Well again,
output & effectiveness will vary from image ot image especially when there are
subjects closeby in the edges - with different distortion levels.

And another challenging one with more lines....in odd angles.

By "distortion", if you are refering to the curve straight line, it's not distortion at all. Fish-eye lens by design will have that characteristic. If you are looking for lens that can capture straight line as straight you will need to look for wide angle lens that is "rectilinear" in design.

Hi bro....

Well i am just using laymans term here for describing the before and after shot. The before shot, well its distorted because its based on a "cut-out" version of the fish eye lens.

Well what ever it is... ah-hong , ah-heng, amat and ali would probably call the original output distorted. So the workflow to get a less-distorted image would be using software - which is cut to do just that.

My goal is also to share the software that i found with others who may be using the 16mm Zenitar or the km one.

I just do not favor the 12-24/11-18's as i use the fish-eye for film too.....and future full frame - if it ever hit the streets...
