Why is this gray card different
1) You enjoy the best of both world, big 30cm diameter is useful in many situation, collapsible to smaller than a palm size (12cm diameter) for portability.
2) It is made from very high quality PVC inner membrane, will not tear, rip or fade with normal use


Some Background
Metering: The camera metering are calibrated to meter all objects as they were 18% grey. In reality they're not, that is why sophisticated metering system (e.g. matrix, evaluative metering) were built, unfortunately they were still trying to "guess" the correct exposure based on different zone of an image. You may get the right exposure sometimes, but many times they're not.

White Balance: As most photographers are aware, the camera auto white balance can't be relied upon in many situations

Is Gray Card optional in Digital Photography?
The answer is NO! This is probably the most important and 1st accessories you should get for your DSLR. A Gray Card is a must for all shots to be properly exposed and correctly white balance. This applies to shooting RAW* too.
(Correct colour/exposure doesn't mean a perfect rendition of the colours or exposure as they were when you were at the scene, some scenes may require a different white balance or exposure than what is "natural" according the photographer's preference. Aiming for "correct colour or exposure" is probably a smart starting point before adjusting to your own tastes.)

* White Balance in shooting RAW
Using custom white balance on your camera can be used to set white balance, but it only really applies to jpg (where the image is processed in-camera). RAW files are unprocessed in-camera so any custom white balance that are saved in-camera are just options when you open your Raw Conversion software.

Tips on White Balance shooting RAW:
1. Skip CWB and just shoot a picture of your gray card in the same light as your subject.
2. Use the White Balance Dropper in your raw conversion software to colour-correct the image of your gray card
3. Apply this white balance setting to all other images that were shot in the same light. In Adobe Camera Raw this is done by highlighting the images you want to correct, right-clicking, and selecting "apply previous correction." This will batch update all images that are selected. Other software have their own methods to accomplish the same thing
