#1 The angle is really good. Lighting is fantastic! How did you do it? The red stuff makes the cat look really regal. Her royal high & mightyness looking over her empire!
#2 To me, it feels a bit tight. Maybe if you had included more of the body? Either that or its just the angle of the cats body to the camera.
#4 I like the way part of the body blends into the background.

Good shots!

I like the first shot very much too. It had looked quite different from my other cat shots. If you look carefully, the angle of the shot is actually due to a slight perspective distortion. I had shot this using an ultra wide angle lens, the Olympus ZD 7-14mm. The lighting effect is also due to the use of this lens. It is so wide that the light from the flash could not cover the entire frame and gave a spot-light kind of effect which was put into good use in this case in illuminating only subject making her stand out sharply and glowingly against the dark background.

The cat, Abby in the second pix is actually a very obese cat with a very big body. I didn't want to include more of her body in the shot because of this. Changing the angle to the camera would probably improve the shot as you suggested. I had photographed Abby in such poses before and I had liked the way she had looked then. Eg. this shot was taken more than 3 years ago when she was much younger ....and slimmer ...

Question Re: Cat Portraits

Wow Abby has stunning eyes!

15 cats? You have my utmost envy. Is it easy to look after them all?

Well, if you love them as much as I do, then looking after them is not a chore at all. But seriously, looking after 15 cats is definitely much, much easier than looking after 15 dogs, don't you think?

cats are the easiest animals to care for. Because they do their own cleaning, do their business naturally at pee tray, dont need you to pat them, and dont stink even without bathing.

Nice series of cat pictures.

Hi Ed1975,

How did you train the adult to toilet bowl? I am always amazed by stories of them being toilet bowl train. I mean its second nature for them to go to litter pan. I am very interested as I intend to keep more then then 1 I have currently next time. Mine is toilet train but put papers in the toilet and he do it on newspapers....

Also, I have heard stories that of cats that toilet bowl train, a group of them that is. And also, one of them knows how to flush..the owner attached a string or something.....AMAZING! This I heard from a friend...so I dont know how true. As for toilet bowl train, I believe.

Working at a kennel and taking care of like 30+ dogs takes me the whole day (including cleaning and feeding and sometimes showering) And the catteries with its 200+ cats can be done with 2 people in about half the day.. certianly says something about maintainence level..

Well 1st of all u must check when ur cat pee or **** in the pee tray(for eg.) will she stand n balance at the edge of the tray n not in the sand... If she stand on the sand then veri diff liao... But if she stand at the edge, u slowly shift the pee tray to the toilet. Then slowly to the toilet bowl. But make sure when she jumps on top of the toilet bowl, she can balance and walk around the edge easily n comfortably... Then throw the cat's **** and some sand wif pee into the toilet bowl to create the smell... Bring her to the bowl n let the cat smell the toilet bowl wif her deposits n slowly remove her pee tray... N hopefully she gets the idea tat there is nowhere to pee except toilet bowl... Do this everyday for a few months w/o fail 2 prevent her fr any confusion... Currently my kitchen toilet bowl is for her personal use... Gd luck... Btw i even took a few pix... Let me noe if u would like to see... haha... Gd luck n let me noe the result... Do i get a free meal for tat?

This is another of my favorites... Willy

Together with his brother Loki (in Pic #4 above) and 3 other siblings, they were borned and bred and grew up in my house.

This is a pic of him and Loki taken when they were just 4 months old in their favorite sleeping place... the bedroom toilet wash-basin.

To this day, even though they have all grown up, I could still find them both sleeping blissfully together in the same wash-basin at night like this....
