Default Feedback on merge of Sony and Minolta forums

We want to solicit member feedback on a possible merge of the Sony and Minolta forums seeing that Sony has now officially absorbed Minolta into its folds.

Please voice out your opinions, concerns etc. in this thread.

In the meantime, a quick poll to gauge.

it's inevitable - but probably can leave a sub forum for legacy minolta equipment?

I suggest that we merge it only at the end of the year... when Sony has more DSLR products and a larger user base of the new DSLR as well... it's a bit premature now... and I agree that we should have a legacy sub-forum for both Sony and Minolta... cos most of the pre-merger products are completely incompatible and so really there is no point talking in terms of equipment...

I would suggest to move Minolta forum under Sony as a child forum for the time being.

Hi Darren....

Merging into Sony would be good as this will help in possible future sponsor request from sony with a greater user base...backed up by the threads and posts in the new combined forum...

I agree with the merge. now there are Sony DSLR threads in two seperate forums. Besides the traffic in both the minolta and sony forum is not high to begin with compared to canon and nikon.

anyway, the sony forum here has a rather low traffic, so merging with KM forum makes sense.

merge or not merge also OK to me, but what will the name of the forum be is more concern to me

Sony Forum?
Sony & Minolta Forum?
Sony & Konica Minolta Forum?

Yes, to avoid duplication of threads.

Time to move on.

New sub-forum should allow threads on Sony as well as KM related issues or items, just like Sony Service centre catering to both Sony and KM equipment owners.

Well, there are still some Minolta loyalists around.

To preserve all existing content of this section as well as retain one of the greatest name in the photography business, I'd suggest to put Minolta as a subforum of Sony instead of simply merging the 2 sections and leaving all excellent discussion, content all at the back where no one would bother to search thru and let the name of Minolta die completely.

At the end of the day, its still the decision of the admins and moderators. They can simply go against the wishes or go with the wishes. But photography and the nostalgia of old names (some of which are pioneers of all the great technology we are now taking for granted) is what makes photography truly alive and not simply one of those 'business-and-technology-for-profits' where ppl simply say, "Lets move on." and go on to wipe a pioneer's name off the minds of people forever and ever.

If a 'lets move on' thinking is adopted, may I propose to wipe off film, medium format and large format discussions off since in this age of digital consumerism, film, MF & LFs are restricted to a very specific and limited group of serious ameuters and working professionals.

Film, medium format and large format are distinctive from the others and would not cause a huge duplication of threads if they are separated from the main stream.

In contrast, Sony and KM is now one and the same and equipment are backward compatible.

i'm for merging the forums since the current minolta forum covers konica equipment anyway. in the same manner the sony forum can cover sony, konica-minolta, minolta and konica equipment.
