    Default Super Mac Computer

Any comment on the iMac offered by starhub as lucky draw price for new maxonline customers ? Touted as the ultimate sufting machine.
I've never use a mac before but I think a machine that has 2G of ram must be real powerful and with 120G of hardisk as well. The dual processor at 1.2G each does not seem that appealing as compared to specification of Pentuim 4 of up to 3G processor.
Another amazing thing is the 23ich LCD monitor. I think it will be fantastic to view pictures over this.
    The machine supposedly cost 16K.
Will you spend so much money on a computer ?

The monitor itself is already enough to make one drool. Just go to any AppleCentre and look at that 22" CinemaDisplay LCD panel. Beats any monitor out there flat. Heck, even the iMac 15" and 17" LCD panels already blow most monitors away.

The Dual Processor will easily outperform any single processor CPU (Intel or otherwise) of the same speed. Great for processing huge images, video, etc.

Would be a waste to use it as a "surfing machine" though.

Don't be put off by the "slower" processor. Apple's processor is different from the PCs. Just because it's only 1.2 ghz doesn't mean it's slower than a pentium with more ghz.. Check out the neat little quicktime here that explains it: http://www.apple.com/g4/myth/

I don't have the photo but it is in the papers everyday.
Full page ad. You won't miss it.
    It look really gorgeous.
Especially the LCD screen and the sound system, really looks out of this world.
Anyway it comes with a 20G ipod.
Any idea how much does the ipod cost ? will it work with a pc ?
Sure looks much better than a creative nomad.

for those who are new to the mac world....

just a guide on how not to be mislead by the number game..... my iMac DV SE running a G3 500mhz processor with 384mb of RAM and a Seagate LCT 15 5400rpm 30gb hdd edits and renders the videos i edit straight from my DV cam faster than my AMD Athlon 1ghz running 512mb ram and an IBM 120GXP 40gb hdd.

in fact, while i'm editing the back part of the video, the front part is already rendering the effects without much effect on the parts i'm editing currently. something like multi tasking within iMovies.

and i'm not on a very powerful mac neither am i running some super powerful editing software like Final Cut Pro or something of its like.

    cheers

    Impressive.

Why do you think Macs are the system of choice for people doing serious video and digital imaging?

It runs on a BSD unix implementation. so..not partially. Its basically a unix machine with apple's own interface.

I tot it is called Darwin ? I'm pretty sure of that, but if Darwin is a subset of BSD then I dunno liao hehehe

ok, another comparism example for non mac people

    my old laptop, win2k
    Piii 900 512mb

    my mac laptop, os 9.2
    g4-500 786mb

photoshop runs slightly faster on my mac.
but then again, you'll feel that is9.2 is kinda dated, it does not even have "true multitaking", and it is way way way behind in dynamic memory allocation.

OSx is cool, but it is damn power hungry.

another observation is that the Mac GUI isn't as spiffy compared to windows.... as in windows have faster response to user interaction....

but that starhub mac machine is just DAMN MDAN WAY WAY COOL !!!!!!!!!!!
