normally i use shutter priority with my shutter set at either 1/160 or 1/200 depends on subject. also because i shoot handheld (prevent camera shake) if i can get support, i will bring the shutter speed down. I let the camera decide on the aperture.

fill flash is used most of the time, intensity is changed depending on subject and lighting condition.

    i hope this helps

    Very nice pictures!
I'm surprise that even at f/14 for #6, the DOF still so thin.

it depends on your camera's metering
I believe you are using a canon, so i canot help you with that.

but if you review your shot on the LCD you will be able to tell if it needs less intensity
basically if your scene is lighter you will not need too much flash intensity as your image will be blown.

any other more technical photogs can explain better?
    please help me.

i am an old man and last time only have manual focus
no other choice, so it is not a special skill to focus manually
anyway i feel that manual focusing for macro is faster.

that is because of the close working distance from camera to subject.
