Or should I just buy the D200 and break the piggy bank. Propaply the sad part is that the F11 resolution and noise level at high ISO win the D50 and D70.

D200 are not forgiveable to your handling technique, also depends on your style.

I already have the F11
Great compact cam but has limitations as a compact. longkangman you memory not too bad ah!! That time I went to buy the Olympus because I could get a complete set with my budget at that time. Trying to sell off my Olympus C-8080 now though http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=197786 to get one Nikon body. Think I'll probably wait a couple of months and get the D200. |

Just a thought. If it's due to the high resolution that the D200 offers, does shooting at a lower res resolve the "problem"?

Actually... I don't know if this is considered arrogant, but before buying something one must know why they're buying it and appreciate it. Others can only tell you which is good, but ultimately, it's the buyer that needs to know what they want.
D50 or D70 both are good cameras and perform well, as long you like the camera you purchase you won't regret purchasing it. Lastly, I won't compare a digital camera vs a DSLR. They're very different in league. |

I won't even compare the D50 & D70s with the D200. different league and different user group too. I still think its important to get a camera you like to use and get that photo, rather than get a more expensive out-of-your-budget camera which you won't use ( including functions which you won't use) and miss that shot.

I'm just deciding because if I get the D50 I wont be upgrading to another Nikon for another year so. Or should I just stick it out with the D200 for maybe 3 years? Going to use it for general photography and maybe a couple of weddings, potraiture use. Used to do some wedding photography but stopped as I'm studying in Aust now.
Well thanks guys for all your help and comments. Will sell off my C-8080 before I can do anything else Cheers! |

If you have existing lenses, it makes sense to get the Nikon DSLR body. Try out the D50 & D70s at the shops if possible. then check out the functions of the D70 that the D50 don't have and see if you need them. There are many reviews on the D50 & D70 on the net, including here on the clubsnap. You can read www.dpreview.com or www.kenrockwell.com for more info, among other sites. With the D50, I don't even intend to change body for the next few years, just maybe add on to the lenses I own instead. If you can well afford the D200, and want its functions/build quality/MPs, and enjoy handling it, guess you could go for that. I don't have any exp with D200, but I sure find it too heavy for me. All that is written here is only personal comments. The choice is up to you.

I haven had quite the same question as you when I started out. Given the choice again, I'd still go for the D70s given that the kit lens are more desirable and the price differences as compared to a D200 price.
For now, I'm more on which lens is better for my needs than to worry whether to upgrade my body or not. I believe my D70 can still serve me for quite a long while before I will even consider upgrading the body. All in all, the D70 is more than sufficient for my needs and 6MP is more than what I'd require for most occassions. Having a 10MP may also meant another headache of acquiring more memory cards. However, if you can afford the D200 (not by instalments of course), then why not? Cheers Last edited by Lmodel; 29th May 2006 at 03:48 PM. |
