Personally, I'll get 2 x 256MB CF cards than 1 512MB CF card. No doubts the price difference maybe a factor to consider. But I think I have a real bad experience of my CF cards went haywired, losing all my pictures. I ]'ll go for 2 x 256MB CF cards for safety.

Not only that, assuming you're gonna get an Image Tank or similar device in future, getting 2 x 256MB cards ensures less downtime when shooting an event, because you can be downloading one card while shooting with the other. Better than running out of space on your 512 MB card just as the groom is kissing the bride, and spending 10 minutes downloading the data from your 512 MB card while all the important stuff is going on. |

512MB CF pros
- don't need to pull and insert the card again and again, minimise wear. - would not accidentally lose one of the cards (me very prone) But I would not buy it now... I will buy it just before my next long trip overseas..... that way i can wait for prices to drop further or even aim the 1GB CF. Cheers everyone for your help. |

I guess this is the same as to choosing a camera...
Access your needs n ur personality for this issue... I concur with Streetshooter for having reliability.....especially those who do wedding shoots... Have a backup card would probably enable them to shoot n transfer data from the other to their image drive (or something like that) Also having an extra card is good in case one goes haywired at BUT at the same time....it doubles the chances of losing especially for the absent minded ones... Personally i would prefer 2 cards compared to having one although having 1 card is enuff for me as i normally shoot very very little....( No eye for creativity n good photos...) ![]() |

another factor would be the camera you are using and what Image quality and size you are going to shoot at
With my Coolpix 5000, I was going to carry 2x 256MB CFC but when shooting in RAW I get around 32 images per 256MB card or in 2560x1920 TIFF around 18 images per 256MB card. So I ended up with a 512MB and a 256MB for backup. |
