Hoan Kiem lake in Hanoi (May 2006)

Some explanation about the lake. According to the legend, a kind in the 15th century has returned a sacred sword, which helped him defeat the aggressors from the North, to a holy turtle during a cruise on the lake. He later named the lake "Hoan Kiem " (Lake of Returned Sword).
Nowaday, the turtle does surface again, from time to time, and each time he or she surfaces, it marks an important event in the country.

You may see in the heart of the lake a small tower called Turtle Tower, from time to time also, a relaxing place for the turtle.
