Hi all... not really new to this forum but this is one of my very infrequent posts. Need some help from all you experts out there.
Been shooting with my Olympus C730 for some 1, 2 years now but it recently got stolen (heart pain issue, i know...pocket more pain still...) So currently looking for a replacement. Was thinking of getting a second hand cameras at first so posted a thread in the buy/sell forum Had a few offers for second hands...that falls within my price range (around $600++?)...They are... Olympus c770, dimage a2, Konica Minolta Dimage Z3, Canon G5, Nikon D70 body, Canon Powershot Pro 1 All comes with standard accessories and then some. However was browsing through Peninsula this afternoon and became quite inclined to shell out the 100-200 more for a new one with warranty et al. Am SERIOUSLY considering the Canon Powershot S3 IS or the Panasonic FZ7... Gah... so many choices... Any advice? Would be much much appreciated.. |

for low budget dSLR is definitely out, you will need to spent aleast 1 time more to cover the focal range given but those 12x zoom camera.
my vote goes to fz7 for prosumer cam. or could just get fz5 in BnS at <$500. image quality wise is the same as fz7 or even better just that it is 5mp vs 6mp in fz7 and a few other feature missing out. but those feature ain't important for casual shoots |

do not be tempted by a DSLR just because of what it is capable of delivering....
sure, it works much better than a normal digital cam, but the investment does not end with the purchase of the body and the kit lens... there is much more $$$ waiting to be spent.... think carefully what your needs are, and decide accordingly. between the 2 that you listed, i would lean more to panasonic FZ7... cheers...
